Project Estimator - Industrial Rack Storage Systems

The Project Estimator will work with account managers and the design team to create bill of materials from rack design drawings. The estimator will send the bill of materials to storage rack fabricators and bid out the scope of work to installation contractors to develop pricing for quotes to customers.

Job Duties:

  • Review bid packages and specifications to ensure compliance with design criteria.
  • Create material take-offs from drawings submitted by the design group, salesman or customers.
  • Determine hardware required based on bill of materials and design factors such as beam elevations and height of reinforced columns.
  • Work with in-house and/or outside structural engineers to complete preliminary engineering. Evaluate preliminary engineering cut sheets and apply to the quotation.
  • Research and suggest design changes and improvements.
  • Submit bill of materials to storage racking fabricators to obtain pricing. Evaluate proposals from fabricators for accuracy and ensure proposals represent the same scope of supply.
  • Develop scope of work and bid out installation rigging to racking installation contractors to obtain best pricing.
  • Mark up design drawings and installation drawings to make sure design accurately reflects intent.
  • Upon order, work with project managers to understand scope of supply to verify correct components are ordered, ensure project managers understand scope of work, and project schedule is maintained.
  • Assist project managers with procurement duties when needed.

    • Tracking shipments
    • Reviewing invoices
    • Management of change
  • Occasional site visits and travel for meeting with customer, troubleshooting and training.

Requirements

  • Storage Racking, Material Handling design and/or installation experience is strongly preferred.
  • MS Office Suite Skills (Excel, Word)
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Desire to learn.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to take direction and motivated to solve problems independently.
  • Technical aptitude.
  • 5% Travel
