Rat and Boa have plans to branch into new categories over the coming year, growing into a fully-fledged fashion house.

The role:

This role is responsible for conceptualising, designing, and developing collections that align with the brand’s aesthetic, customer preferences, and market trends. They will work closely with the Head of Design and Production teams to bring ideas to life, ensuring high-quality, commercially viable products that drive sales and brand growth.

This an amazing opportunity for an experienced designer to join a growing team and looking for that next step in their career. You will have the opportunity to work closely with an experienced Head of Design alongside the Creative Directors (and co-founders) of the brand.

Main responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Head of Design and design team to interpret and develop inspiration and concepts. Making sure the initial concept of the collection is carried over and the creative vision translates into tangible collections. 
  • Develop strong mood boards based on the initial concept. Present research on themes, silhouettes, colours, fabric, raw materials, prints and beading collaborating on Miro to define and refine designs.
  • Ensure all the research, design and developments reflect the brand DNA, value and aesthetic. 
  • Develop and oversee seasonal collections, ensuring alignment with the brand’s vision and market trends.
  • Create innovative, trend-forward designs while maintaining commercial viability.
  • Initiate design sketches with the team in line with each brief.
  • Collaborate on silhouettes, finishes and suitability of fabrics.
  • Work closely with the sustainability manager and Head of production to make sure  all materials and suppliers have the correct certifications. Consider sustainability when sourcing raw materials using certified fabrics as much as possible.
  • Work closely with marketing, and merchandising teams to align designs with brand strategy and target audience needs.
  • Work closely with the atelier, product and production development teams to ensure designs are executed accurately
  • Keep constant communication with the Head of Design and Head of production to make sure deadlines are met in line with the Critical Path.

Requirements

  • Design Expertise: Advanced skills in sketching, draping, and CAD software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Design Experience: can demonstrate specialist experience in tailoring, other wear and separates
  • Trend Analysis: Ability to predict and interpret trends that resonate with target markets.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of garment construction, textiles, and production processes.
  • Garment Construction: Knowledge of sewing techniques, stitching methods, and finishing details.
  • Fabric Knowledge: Understanding different types of fabrics, their drape, weight, and suitability for various designs.
  • Leadership: Experience managing teams and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Communication: Strong presentation and interpersonal skills for liaising with cross-functional teams.
  • Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of market dynamics, competitor brands, and consumer preferences.
  • An understanding of Pattern Making & Draping 

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7-10+ years in fashion design, with a significant portion in leadership roles.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
  • Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing innovative designs and successful collections.
