Job Title: Wire EDM Machinist
Location: Portsmouth, VA
Duration: Full Time, Contract-to-Hire
Shift: 1st Shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
Pay Rate: $20 – $30/hr. (Based on Experience)

Position Overview:
Qualdoc is looking for a skilled Wire EDM Machinist to join our team. This role involves setting up, operating, and troubleshooting Wire EDM machines to produce high-precision components. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, blueprint reading skills, and hands-on Wire EDM experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC Wire EDM machines to manufacture precision parts.
Safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials.
Recognize and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling.
Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to execute work instructions.
Determine and use the correct tools for each job.
Utilize precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.) to ensure accuracy.
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on machinery.
Follow job travelers and document work progress.
Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering to company policies and procedures.
Work overtime as required, including evenings and weekends.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Strong understanding of Wire EDM processes, setup, and maintenance.
Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
3–5 years of Wire EDM machining experience preferred.
High school diploma or GED required.
Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools.
Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
Effective communication skills in English (verbal and written).
Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
Must have basic machinist tools.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs as needed.
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders.
Ability to move products using an overhead crane.
Good vision is required, including close, distance, color, and depth perception.
Some computer use is required for documentation and job tracking.
Work Environment
Moderate to high noise levels due to machine operations.
Shop environment with safety protocols in place.
Pre-employment drug test and background check required.
