Wintel and Active Directory Engineer

TLDR

Drive the health and performance of NEXTDC's computing systems by designing scalable Windows Server and Active Directory solutions, while managing critical infrastructure in a growing team.

As our Wintel & AD Engineer you’ll oversee the management and optimisation of NEXTDC computing and storage infrastructure, including Active Directory, Windows Server environments, and Hyper-V virtualisation.

Here you will drive the overall health and performance of NEXTDC systems, designing solutions for scalability and high availability, supporting Azure integrations, and managing storage solutions. ​

Within this position, your scope will cover:

  • Designing and implementing scalable solutions for Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022), Active Directory, and Hyper-V virtualisation
  • Overseeing the architecture, maintenance, and optimisation of Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, and FSMO roles
  • Developing and testing disaster recovery plans, manage backups, configure failover clusters, and ensure minimal downtime in case of system failures.
  • Monitoring system health and provide advanced troubleshooting for complex system issues; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
  • Leading automation initiatives using PowerShell to streamline system management and improve operational efficiency.​
  • Executing security measures, including role-based access control, encryption (BitLocker), and compliance with auditing standards
  • Performing patch management using WSUS or SCCM, ensuring secure and timely deployment of updates and addressing vulnerabilities.​

 

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Wintel Engineering or Active Directory administration, or related experience in computing and storage functions
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting complex, optimising Windows Server environments, AD, and Hyper-V infrastructures​
  • Industry-standard certifications such as MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate), MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert), or Azure Administrator Associate.​

 

Your technical capability:

  • Proficient in Windows Server administration and Active Directory management
  • Expertise in Hyper-V, storage solutions (SAN, NAS, iSCSI, RAID), and PowerShell scripting​
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls), patch management (WSUS, SCCM), and security tools (Windows Defender, role-based access control)
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy Management and certificate services
  • Hyper-V hypervisor deployment, management, and optimisation  
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery, backup solutions​
  • Knowledge of Azure hybrid environments, incl. integration.
