About the Role
The Windows Engineer is a key member of Business Wire’s Corp IT team, responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing our hybrid environment across on-premises, virtualized, and cloud platforms. This role requires deep expertise in Windows Server technologies, VMware virtualization, Active Directory/Entra ID, and AWS.
In addition to supporting core infrastructure, this engineer will play a critical role in addressing audit-related findings, implementing remediation plans, and ensuring ongoing compliance with Business Wire and Berkshire Hathaway standards. The engineer will collaborate with teams across IT, Security, and external partners to meet audit timelines and maintain a strong control environment.
This is a fully remote individual contributor role with significant technical ownership.
What You'll Do
Administer, configure, and optimize Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022).
Manage and troubleshoot Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, identity synchronization, and hybrid identity workflows.
Maintain and support VMware vSphere, ESXi hosts, vCenter, and virtual networking components.
Perform Windows Server patching, VMware patching, and vulnerability remediation in alignment with compliance requirements.
Assist with audit-related findings, remediation tasks, access reviews, and evidence preparation.
Administer and support AWS workloads including EC2, IAM, networking, and monitoring.
Troubleshoot DNS, DHCP, load balancing, and other core networking services.
Coordinate infrastructure tasks with remote data center technicians (racking, cabling, hardware replacement, power cycling).
Monitor server and virtualization performance and respond rapidly to infrastructure incidents.
Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions for recurring issues.
Participate in the Corp IT on-call rotation for after-hours infrastructure support.
Partner with IT Security to ensure strong security controls, identity governance, and compliance.
Support Service Desk escalations requiring deep infrastructure or troubleshooting expertise.
Maintain detailed documentation, runbooks, infrastructure diagrams, and configuration standards.
Recommend and implement improvements to operational workflows, automation, and system reliability.
What You'll Need
5+ years as a Windows Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar role.
Deep experience and expertise with Windows Server, AD, Entra ID, hybrid identity.
Experience performing audit remediation, access reviews, compliance documentation, or SOX/GRC work.
Strong knowledge of DNS, DHCP, networking fundamentals, and troubleshooting.
Experience coordinating with remote data center technicians.
Experience with lifecycle management and vulnerability remediation using automation (e.g. Powershell) and Infrastructure as Code (IAC).
Expertise with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
Ability to participate in an on-call rotation.
Strong written documentation and cross-functional communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with monitoring or SIEM tools (Splunk, CloudWatch, OpenSearch).
VMware, Microsoft, Entra ID, AWS certifications.
Prior experience in audit-driven or highly regulated technical environments.
What We Offer
The base salary range for this position is $125K - $135K. Offered salary will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to: applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with geographic market data. Business Wire reserves the right to modify this salary range at any time.
