Your New Role

As a Welder/Fitter in Salem, OR, you’ll be responsible for fabricating, welding, and assembling structural steel components for utility and communication projects. You’ll work with round and tapered shafts using GMAW and other welding methods. Your day-to-day will include interpreting blueprints, cutting and fitting material, inspecting for quality, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Interpret detailed drawings and specifications

  • Cut, fit, and weld steel using GMAW spray transfer and other processes

  • Conduct plasma and oxy/fuel cutting

  • Fabricate specialized fixtures and components

  • Maintain high standards for safety, quality, and accuracy

  • Perform equipment maintenance and assist in shop operations as needed

Interview Process Notes:

All candidates will complete a written skills test and a hands-on welding test during the interview process. The written portion covers 10th-grade geometry topics like angles, triangles, bevels, and basic math. If a candidate does not pass either test but shows strong work ethic and a positive attitude, they may be considered for a Production Helper role instead.

Physical Expectations:

This is a physically active role. You’ll be on your feet for most of the shift, regularly lifting up to 50 lbs, handling steel components, and working in a fast-paced, industrial shop environment with heat, noise, and tight spaces.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in both welding and fabrication, ideally in a production or manufacturing environment

  • Proficient in:

    • GMAW spray transfer

    • FCAW welding for select project applications

    • Structural layout and fabrication tools

    • AWS D1.1 Visual Acceptance Criteria

    • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings

    • Using layout tools and fabrication equipment

    • Basic and advanced math, including geometry

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in variable shop conditions

  • Must complete an on-site welding/skills test as part of the hiring process
