The API Management / Integration Engineer is responsible for the design, development, security, and lifecycle management of APIs using Great Eastern’s Axway API Management Platform. The role supports enterprise integration initiatives by enabling secure, scalable, and reusable APIs for internal and external consumers while ensuring compliance with regulatory and security standards.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and publish REST and SOAP APIs using the Axway API Management Platform to support digital and integration initiatives.
  • Configure and manage Axway API Gateway, API Manager, API Portal, and API Analytics, ensuring availability, performance, and security.
  • Develop and maintain API policies, filters, transformations, routing, and orchestration for API consumption and exposure.
  • Implement API security controls, including TLS, HMAC, digital signatures, PKI, encryption, authentication, authorization, and traffic management.
  • Perform API platform migrations and upgrades, ensuring backward compatibility, stability, and minimal business disruption.
  • Build and test APIs over new and existing backend services, supporting application team onboarding and migration to the API platform.
  • Define, maintain, and publish Swagger / OpenAPI specifications required for API governance and lifecycle management.
  • Create and maintain an API Catalogue for internal and external consumers, ensuring accuracy and discoverability.
  • Prepare and maintain Detail Design Documents (DDD), API Technical Specifications, and supporting documentation for projects and platform operations.
  • Support BAU activities, including monitoring, incident resolution, planned maintenance, and emergency fixes for the API platform.
  • Conduct business requirement analysis and technical assessments to identify functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Perform unit testing and support integration testing using tools such as SoapUI and Postman.
  • Develop utility services and reusable assets, including shared API components, libraries, and value-added services to reduce redundancy across teams.
  • Monitor API traffic, logs, and performance using Kibana, Elasticsearch, and Filebeat, and proactively resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, application, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless CI/CD integration using Bitbucket, Bamboo, and Nexus.
  • Take ownership of regulatory compliance and risk management, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging threats, and regulatory changes, applying best practices to safeguard the organization.
  • Proactively highlight concerns, share risk management best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
