We are looking for an Assistant Manager (Waste Management) within the Logistics Planning Team to lead the design and execution of waste management operations across cities including Woven City. The role covers both urban and industrial waste—such as construction debris, logistics packaging, and factory-related waste—and focuses on building sustainable waste management systems as essential urban infrastructure to address social and environmental challenges. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, improve, and optimize end-to-end waste management processes, including collection, transportation, treatment, recycling, and resource recovery for both municipal and industrial waste
  • Establish data-driven management systems for waste visualization, traceability, and KPI tracking
  • Manage regulatory compliance and permitting related to industrial waste management (e.g., Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act, special controlled industrial waste requirements)
  • Lead coordination and relationship management with external contractors, local governments, residents, tenant companies, and factories
  • Plan and execute pilot projects for upcycling and resource recovery, and develop new initiatives for waste reduction and circular resource utilization
  • Support ESG initiatives and sustainability reporting, including CO₂ reduction metrics, recycling rate improvements, and environmental certifications
  • Support environmental PoC activities and resource recycling experiments conducted within Woven City
  • Collaborate and align with Toyota Group companies, municipalities, and partner organizations
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Practical experience in waste management operations, including municipal, facility, and industrial waste
  • Knowledge and hands on experience with waste-related regulations (municipal solid waste and industrial waste)
  • Foundational understanding of waste management, environmental regulations, local ordinances, and recycling frameworks
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders (municipalities, contractors, internal teams) to design and drive operational schemes
  • Strong logical thinking and structured problem solving capabilities
  • Daily conversation level English and native level Japanese proficiency (equivalent to JLPT N1)
  • NICE TO HAVES
  • Certifications related to environmental management (e.g., ISO 14001, Environmental Measurement Certification, Industrial Waste Management Specialist)
  • Experience in ESG reporting (integrated reports, sustainability reports, etc.)
  • Experience in waste infrastructure planning or environmentally conscious design in architecture, facility planning, or urban development
  • Experience in environmental consulting or launching new sustainability-related businesses
  • Certification as a Specially Controlled Industrial Waste Management Supervisor, or prior experience serving in an equivalent appointed role
  • Pollution Control Manager certification (air, water, or related disciplines), or substantial hands-on experience in regulatory compliance and environmental operations
  • Knowledge or practical experience in upcycling, reuse, or recycling businesses
  • Project management experience in environmental or infrastructure domains
