Role Overview

We are seeking a highly strategic, analytically rigorous, and execution-oriented leader to partner directly with the Chief Product Officer to drive critical, high-impact initiatives across the business.

This role is designed for a leader who thrives in ambiguity, can rapidly structure complex problems, and is equally comfortable shaping strategic direction and leading cross-functional execution. The VP, Portfolio Strategy will work on opportunities and challenges that sit outside the normal operating cadence and in-flight roadmap: emerging technologies, transformational capabilities, new business models, portfolio shifts, strategic pilots, and other initiatives that require deep thinking, organizational alignment, and hands-on leadership.

For targeted initiatives, this role will also be asked to lead small, cross-functional core teams assembled around strategic questions or exploratory initiatives – bringing structure, momentum, and clarity to areas that are often early-stage, ambiguous, and highly consequential.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Problem Solving & Opportunity Assessment

  • Lead analysis and framing of complex strategic questions affecting product direction, technology investment, portfolio evolution, and organizational capabilities.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, market shifts, competitive dynamics, and adjacent opportunities to identify implications and strategic options for the business.
  • Develop actionable recommendations supported by rigorous analysis, clear narratives, and executive-level communication materials.
  • Translate broad strategic concepts into practical decision frameworks and implementation pathways.

Cross-Functional Initiative Leadership

  • Serve as the leader for select high-priority strategic initiatives that fall outside typical functional ownership.
  • Build and lead small cross-functional working teams across Product, Market Access, Regulatory, Clinical, Engineering, Commercial, and other functions as needed.
  • Establish initiative structure, milestones, governance, communication cadence, and decision-making frameworks.
  • Drive alignment among senior stakeholders while maintaining momentum in uncertain or evolving environments.

Innovation & Transformation Enablement

  • Help the organization assess and operationalize transformational opportunities, including new technologies, workflows, capabilities, and operating models.
  • Lead exploratory pilots, proof-of-concept programs, and early-stage strategic experiments.
  • Identify barriers to adoption and help shape scalable approaches for broader organizational implementation.

Executive Partnership

  • Act as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to executive leadership.
  • Provide leverage to Product leadership by independently advancing critical initiatives and surfacing insights, risks, and recommendations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in strategy, product leadership, consulting, business transformation, innovation, or related leadership roles.  MBA strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional strategic initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Exceptional structured thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to distill complex topics into clear recommendations and compelling narratives.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders across multiple functions without direct authority.
  • Strong business acumen paired with technical curiosity and comfort engaging with emerging technologies and evolving market dynamics.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in environments with incomplete information and evolving priorities.
  • High degree of ownership, initiative, adaptability, and judgment.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is:

  • A systems thinker who can connect market trends, customer needs, technology evolution, and business strategy.
  • Equally comfortable in strategic discussions and operational execution.
  • Naturally curious and energized by unfamiliar or undefined problems.
  • Able to bring order and clarity to situations that lack precedent or structure.
  • Credible with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Calm, pragmatic, and highly effective in fast-moving environments.
  • Motivated by impact, influence, and organizational transformation rather than narrow functional ownership.

A reasonable estimate of the yearly base compensation range is $325,000 to $375,000, bonus, and equity. #LI-Hybrid; #LI-IB1
