Virtual Cyber Network Operations Intern

Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art. 

We’re looking for someone to join a team committed to accelerating the development of intelligent systems software, and custom research software tools and services.  Successful candidates will create high-quality DevOps solutions that satisfy research needs.  This will involve full engagement in the software development cycle, including understanding the technical challenges associated with intelligent systems, defining test cases, working with a team to co-design solutions, and supporting DevOps tools during usage.  Above all, the position requires good scientific communication skills, a strong work ethic, enjoyment of problem solving, and an ability to span different fields of study

Essential Duties: 
Develop and deploy a SDN simulation platform capable of deploying node and end device operating systems and network applications in VMs in an automated manner. Development of deception techniques on SDN, e.g. honeypots, decoys, etc. Development of machine-learning (ML) based networked probes and reactive agents that statically and/or dynamically adjust techniques.  Develop a simple user interface / user experience (UI/UX) to monitor and summarize the state of the SDN platform.

Required Skills: 
Experience with GitLab, Docker, Python, C++, nmap, and deployment or orchestration tools is desired (e.g. Ansible, Vagrant, Chef, Puppet, Salt, Docker compose, Docker swarm, Kubernetes, etc.).  

Required Education:
Current undergrad, Masters, or PhD student pursuing a cybersecurity related degree, e.g. Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, etc.

Special Requirements: 
U.S. Citizenship; active security clearance or ability to obtain one.

Compensation:
The pay range for this position $35 - $50 per hour.
Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
