About the Creator Accountability Network

The Creator Accountability Network (CAN) empowers Community Members to build trust with Content Creators through ethical training and accreditation, community-centered reporting of unethical behavior, and the promotion of community healing through active accountability.

The Opportunity

Advocates at CAN play a vital role in our mission to support reporters of harassment, abuse and other unethical behaviour that request aid through CAN’s investigation and mediation processes system as well as creators going through a mediation. This volunteer role is remote and part-time, and offers a unique opportunity to significantly impact the lives of individuals seeking healing and restorative justice. You will work closely with reporters and creators, and provide them with emotional support and guidance to local or appropriate resources.

As a part of our team, you will be contributing to our mission of normalizing compassion, respect, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional support, aid, and in some cases intervention to reporters.
  • Provide emotional support and aid to creators going through investigations and mediation.
  • Be on-call at specific times to answer CAN’s reporting hotline. (This does not mean you have to sit at home doing nothing, just that you must be able to take calls in a quiet, private space as needed).
  • Guide reporters to appropriate resources for holistic healing and community support, whether internal to CAN or to other reputable organizations, whether online or local.
  • Help to ensure clients’ (both reporters or creators) rights and needs are prioritized by advocating for them in various settings, including mediations and in interactions with investigators.
  • Ensure either creators or reporters understand the restorative justice process at CAN and support them during the investigation interviews and/or mediation.
  • Maintain your NACP certification through continuous education. We will do our best to help with this.
  • Attend bi-weekly Advocate team meetings (1 hour) to discuss work and participate in ongoing training.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • NACP certification (if you don’t have this, we’ll help you get it!)
  • A deep sense of compassion for other people, and an understanding of the psychological impacts associated with experiencing harassment and other harmful behaviour.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • A commitment to ethical behaviour and restorative justice.
  • The ability to participate remotely online for approximately 4-8 hours per week.
