Vice President of Operations, Civil Construction

Overview

We are looking for a Vice President of Operations to lead construction operations across civil, infrastructure, and site development projects. This role is responsible for overseeing project execution, field operations, and operational performance across multiple active jobs and regions. The position works closely with executive leadership to drive production, improve efficiency, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who understands both field execution and high-level operational strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across civil construction, site development, and infrastructure projects
  • Lead project managers, superintendents, and field teams to ensure strong execution and project delivery
  • Maintain accountability for project performance including schedule, budget, safety, and quality
  • Monitor and improve production efficiency, labor performance, and resource allocation across projects
  • Review project financials including cost tracking, forecasting, and overall profitability
  • Identify and resolve operational challenges related to scheduling, sequencing, and field coordination
  • Build, mentor, and scale high-performing operations teams across multiple locations
  • Collaborate with estimating and preconstruction teams to ensure projects are set up for successful execution
  • Align operational capacity with backlog growth and support expansion into new regions or markets
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company procedures

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in construction operations with a background in civil, infrastructure, or site development projects
  • Experience leading project managers, superintendents, and field teams across multiple projects
  • Proven ability to manage project performance, budgets, and operational outcomes at scale
  • Background progressing from Project Management or Operations leadership into senior-level responsibility
  • Strong understanding of scheduling, cost control, and construction execution
  • Experience in self-perform environments or managing subcontractor-driven projects
  • Exposure to public works, DOT, municipal, or large commercial site development projects preferred
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on operational leadership
