Purpose of the Role:

The Vehicle Dynamics Engineer is responsible for vehicle modeling and simulation.  Primary focus of this role is accurately predicting vehicle behavior and leading the optimization of vehicle performance.

 

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Work with Vehicle Dynamics group, including Simulation, Tire, and Power Unit Engineers

  • Define tests required to populate vehicle models, including, but not limited to, kinematics & compliance, inertia, shaker, damper dyno, drivetrain, and wind tunnel

  • Specify and populate vehicle model for use in simulation

  • Simulate vehicle to predict performance characteristics

  • Work with Race Engineers to determine optimization targets

  • Correlate model and simulation output to on-track data and feedback

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in engineering, mathematics, or physics

  • 5+ years of motorsport experience

  • Strong proficiency programming in Matlab and C++

  • Extensive experience in dynamic simulation, including discrete time solvers and Jacobian matrices

  • Proficient understanding of data reduction techniques

  • Expert knowledge in vehicle dynamics and tire performance characteristics

  • Experience with a range of static rig tests

  • Understanding of hybrid power units

  • Strong familiarity with driver-in-the-loop simulation
