About the Role:

We have a great opportunity on our team for an Underwriting Assistant. As an Underwriting Assistant you will provide administrative and operational support to the commerical underwriting team, ensuring new business, renewals, and all post bind policy transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. This role supports the habitational underwriting team workflows in a fast-paced MGA environment.  This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, self-starter that is looking to grow within the commercial insurance underwriting space.


This is a remote based position that will require candidates to live and work in New Jersey. You will be asked to work out of our Morristown, NJ office for onboarding, team meetings, and trainings.



Key Responsibilities: (What you’ll be asked to do)

  • Prepare policy documentation for binding and issuance.
  • Communicate with agents and underwriters regarding missing information, documentation, or notice-related questions.
  • Track outstanding items and manage priorities to meet regulatory and underwriting deadlines.
  • Assist with endorsements, cancellations, and non-renewals.
  • Ensure accurate entry of underwriting and policy data upon binding.
  • Maintain accurate electronic underwriting files.

  • Support audits, carrier reviews, and compliance requests.
  • Prepare, issue, and track regulatory Oden notices, including but not limited to: Non-renewal notices, Conditional renewal notices, Cancellation notices. Ensure all notices are issued in accordance with state specific timing and content.
  • Collect required documentation and support the filing of Surplus Lines taxes and fees, when applicable, in accordance with state regulatory requirements and internal procedure.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately and professionally in a regulatory and underwriting environment.


Some Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in commercial insurance support, underwriting assistant, or policy processing.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, MS Teams), insurance-related systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven, compliance-focused environment.
  • Interest in career growth within underwriting.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is: $55,000- $65,000 per year + benefits. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations. This salary range is a good-faith estimate of what Swyfft may pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, qualifications, and experience. The range reflects annual compensation (as applicable) and does not include bonuses or other incentives that the company may choose to pay at its sole discretion.
