To provide general support to the geological technical services department at the Waihi Underground Operation. Suitable physical fitness is a key requirement of the position. Basic computer competency and aptitude with Microsoft office suite.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Comply with all site safe work practices and instructions.
- Sample and photograph core at the underground and surface core logging facilities.
- Assist geologists with underground mapping and general ore control duties.
- Sample collection, collation and transportation.
- Dispatch of samples to the analytical laboratory.
- Carry out sample storage activities.
- Photograph underground development and assist with creating 3D scans of the underground workings.
- Monitor stocks of consumables associated with underground ore control activities.
- Provide care and maintenance of vehicles and equipment used in duties.
- Assist Geotechnical department with pull testing, MBPX and seismic monitoring, and other tasks as required.
- Assist Survey department with CALS operation and other tasks as required.
- Assist Engineering department with underground tasks as required.
- A tertiary degree in Geology is preferred but not essential.
- Full and Current Driver Licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is essential).
Experience:
- Previous experience working in mining operations preferred.
- An understanding of geological processes preferred.
