Your Role

You will serve as a design lead on multidisciplinary projects within the transportation civil design group while simultaneously advancing FHU’s presence across all service areas in Colorado and the Mountain West Region.

Primary Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Technical Expertise

  • Collaborate with practice leaders, project managers and technical staff across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide strong client service and cultivate long-term partnerships through consistent communication and problem-solving.
  • Lead or contribute to project scoping, budgeting, and QA/QC reviews.
  • Be an industry expert in at least one civil design technical focus area – multimodal, highway, municipal, roundabouts, BRT, etc.
  • Be a technical expert in one or both CADD platforms – AutoCAD Civil 3d/Open Roads. Support Technical lead in training, technical support and best practices.
  • Be a technical resource for junior staff and an industry expert in specific technical areas within the transportation civil design group.
  • Stay at the forefront of technical innovation in the industry.

Business Development & Strategic Growth

  • Support market leads and project managers in execution of business development strategy aligned with FHU’s goals.
  • In a support role, leverage established relationships with public agencies, municipalities, CDOT, and/or private sector clients to generate project leads and secure new work.
  • Support pursuit teams, including premarketing efforts, interviews, scoping and contract negotiations.

Team Leadership & Culture Building

  • Act as a local ambassador of FHU’s mission and values, contributing to a positive and inclusive office culture.
  • Inspire and develop the next generation of leaders by providing guidance and mentorship to emerging engineers and junior staff.

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g., civil engineering, urban/transportation planning, environmental sciences, etc.)
  • 10+ years of experience in the transportation industry
  • Strong, established network in Colorado with a record of successfully delivering transportation work
  • Ability to serve as design lead on multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across internal departments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer license
  • Cross-disciplinary awareness of transportation-related services and funding sources
  • Experience mentoring or managing staff

The actual offer will carefully consider a range of factors including your skills, qualifications, and experience.

Salary Range: $125,000 – $175,000 annually
