Let's start with the role
The Total Rewards Latam Manager is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, and administration of compensation, benefits, and recognition programs across all entities in the region. This role acts as a bridge between global corporate guidelines and local market realities, ensuring the attraction and retention of top talent while maintaining fiscal responsibility and legal compliance.
Responsibilities
A typical day involves a mix of analytical rigor and stakeholder management, including:
- Reviewing market data trends for a specific country (e.g., hyperinflation adjustments in Argentina) and meeting with Global HQ to align on the annual merit cycle.
- Collaborating with local HRBPs to solve complex "off-cycle" offers for critical leadership roles.
- Meeting with benefits brokers to negotiate regional health insurance renewals or auditing payroll reports to ensure pay equity compliance.
- Preparing slide decks for the Regional VP to explain the ROI of new wellness initiatives.
- Strategic Reward Design: Develop and harmonize compensation structures (grades, ranges, and incentives) that are competitive in local markets and aligned with global budgets.
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure all programs comply with local labor laws and statutory requirements across diverse jurisdictions, while managing regional risk.
- Data-Driven Advisory: Act as the subject matter expert for leadership, providing insights on turnover, market movements, and labor costs to drive business decisions.
- Vendor Management: negotiate with regional benefits providers and survey vendors (e.g. Mercer, WTW, Korn Ferry).
What you will bring
- Experience: 8–12 years of experience in Compensation and Benefits, with at least 5 years managing a LATAM regional scope (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, etc.).
- Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. An MBA or CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) is a plus.
- People Management: Experience leading small-to-medium specialized teams or managing through influence in a matrixed environment.
- Language Skills: English (Fluent/C-Level) is mandatory for global reporting. Spanish (advanced) is highly preferred for regional stakeholder management.
- Industry Experience: Prior experience in Tech, Pharma, or Consumer Goods is often preferred, given the complexity of talent competition in these sectors.
- Advanced Excel & Data Modeling: The ability to work with large datasets, pivot tables, and complex formulas is foundational.
- Regional Labor Law Knowledge: Deep understanding of LATAM-specific mandates (e.g., 13th salary, FGTS, food vouchers, Mexico's PTU).
- Vendor Management: Proven track record of managing and negotiating with regional benefits providers and survey vendors (Mercer, WTW, Korn Ferry).
- HR Systems: Experience with HRIS platforms such as Workday or SAP SuccessFactors can be learned on the job.
- Public Speaking: While strong communication skills are essential, executive-level presentation skills can be developed with coaching.
- Global Mobility: Knowledge of expat management and cross-border taxation is a plus, though not always a day-one requirement.
