ROLE SUMMARY
The Theater Technician contributes to Valor Christian High School by helping to ensure high level execution of all Valor Center for Culture and Influence and school wide events requiring audio visual, lighting, and production support. This role will also work within the Arts+Media program to deliver excellent production experiences for students and patrons alike. Additional production responsibilities in the areas of set building, technical production, and the equipping and instructing of student tech teams are also critical components of this position.

Primary Responsibilities
- Execute outstanding technical production through the following work:
- Lighting design, programming and operation (grandMA Light Board)
- Audio front of house (Digico)
- Microphones and audio reinforcement
- Performer Flying Systems (additional training will be required and provided)
- Image magnification systems and control
- Build and construct sets
- Perform maintenance and upkeep of Valor Center systems and equipment
- Provide Technical stage management and support
- Instruct students in technical production
- Provide AVL technical support for campus-wide school events as needed

RESULTS
The Theater Technician will have ensured strong technical execution across all Valor Christian events that require audio, video, lighting, and live production support. Working closely with the Arts+Media team, this role will have helped create polished, engaging experiences for both students and audiences. The position will have played a hands-on role in building and maintaining sets, managing technical production elements, and training and guiding student tech teams, helping them develop practical skills while upholding high production standards.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- A degree in audio, video, lighting or technical theater or equivalent experience is preferred
- A minimum of four years’ experience in a production-related environment is required
- Theatrical production experience is required
- Proficiency in lighting design and programming is essential. GrandMA experience is preferred
- Audio engineering/Front of House experience is valued. Digico console experience is desirable
- Rigging experience is valued. Experience with performer flying is desirable (additional training will be required and provided).
- Video systems experience with both capture and display interfaces is required.
- Experience with set construction, basic construction, and shop management is essential.
- Ability to successfully train and equip student support workers in technical theater and production support is essential.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employees must periodically lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and could occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral/depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics are varied and include classroom, office, and outdoor events while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is also varied.
