The Test Lead will be responsible for leading and executing testing activities for their assigned project(s) on a workstream that is part of a broader programme. This is a hands-on role that blends senior-level test execution with coordination and planning responsibilities. Working closely with 1–2 testers, the Test Lead will guide the test effort, ensure high-quality delivery aligned with project requirements and timelines, and act as the key QA contact for the project.

You will report directly to the QA/Test Manager, who oversees the overall programme-level testing strategy and coordination. This role does not include people management but requires strong ownership of test activities and the ability to lead by example within a small team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate QA activities across assigned projects in the workstream.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and mentoring to QA team members.
  • Actively contribute towards the definition and evolution of test strategies.
  • Execute test strategies in alignment with the established QA approach, ensuring consistency across assigned projects and workstreams.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using modern frameworks.
  • Perform manual testing where appropriate to ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Monitor and report on test progress, risks, and issues.
  • Deliver key documentation including Test Plans, Daily Status Reports, and Completion Reports.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project stakeholders to ensure quality is embedded throughout the lifecycle.
  • Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in leading QA teams and managing test delivery.
  • Strong hands-on experience in both manual and automation testing.
  • Experience in designing test automation frameworks from the ground up or implementing enhancements to existing frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in Java and JavaScript, with the ability to contribute to test automation codebases.
  • Proficient with test automation frameworks Cypress, including designing or maintaining robust test suites.
  • Hands-on experience with BDD method using Cucumber, including writing and reviewing Gherkin scenarios to support collaborative testing practices.
  • Skilled in API testing using Rest-Assured and Postman.
  • Familiarity with performance testing tools such as JMeter and/or Gatling.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins).
  • Good understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Strong collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience using JIRA and TestRail.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and compatibility (cross-browser) testing tools.
  • Experience managing test environments using OpenShift
  • ISTQB certification or equivalent.
