At Skyways, we are building the next generation of autonomous air transportation. Our fully autonomous unmanned aircraft systems move cargo faster and more efficiently than traditional logistics networks.
Backed by strong investor support and a $37M STRATFI contract from the U.S. Air Force, we operate at the intersection of commercial logistics and national defense. Our aircraft are not just prototypes—we design, build, fly, and deploy them with real customers today.
Based in Austin and supported by investors including Y Combinator, Skyways combines rapid engineering iteration with real-world operations. As we scale toward larger deployments, we are looking for people who want to help build and operate the future of autonomous aviation.
The Opportunity
Technicians are a core part of our Manufacturing team. You will be hands-on building and assembling Skyways aircraft from the ground up. Your work will directly impact safety, performance, and reliability before an aircraft ever leaves our facility.
This is an on-site role focused on fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing. You’ll work closely with engineering and other technicians to bring designs to life, improve build processes, and ensure every aircraft meets our quality standards. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail will define the final product.
You will spend your time on the shop floor building, integrating, troubleshooting, and refining aircraft systems. This role is critical to getting aircraft out the door safely and on schedule.
What You’ll Do
Fabricate composite aircraft structures using wet layup and/or prepreg methods.
Perform vacuum bagging, curing, trimming, bonding, and finishing of composite parts.
Assemble aircraft structures including trimming, jigging, drilling, and hardware installation.
Build electrical wiring harnesses (soldering, crimping, continuity testing).
Integrate avionics, power systems, and flight control components.
Perform functional testing and support ground and flight test preparation.
Diagnose and resolve build issues during assembly and integration.
Create and improve tooling, fixtures, and build processes for repeatability and quality.
What You’ll Bring
4+ years of hands-on experience with aircraft, drones, robotics, or electromechanical systems.
Direct composite fabrication experience (wet layup and/or prepreg), including vacuum bagging and part finishing.
Experience in aircraft assembly and structural integration.
Strong electrical fundamentals including wiring harness fabrication and component testing.
Ability to read and follow technical drawings and build instructions.
Strong troubleshooting ability across mechanical and electrical systems.
High attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.
Bonus Points If You Have
Experience working in a production or low-rate initial manufacturing environment.
Background in avionics integration.
A&P License.
Flight test support experience.
