As a key member of the Maintenance Team, the Baggage Handling System Technician Helper plays an integral role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our baggage handling systems within the Calgary Airport. This role involves both electrical and mechanical maintenance work, performed under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor and in collaboration with the Shift BHS Technician.

Must be able to work rotating shifts; including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance.

  • Actively monitor system operations to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.

  • Respond promptly to major stoppages, minimizing downtime and maintaining system flow.

  • Ensure the effectiveness of the system through diligent quality control and adherence to best practices.

  • Assist in providing technical clarification and detailed explanations as needed.

  • Adhere strictly to Health and Safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Maintain accurate system reporting and assist in completing incident reports when failures occur.

  • Perform Pre-Job Hazard Assessments to mitigate risks before work begins.

  • Collaborate with Baggage Service Agents and assist at Manual Encoding Stations, including manual baggage movement as required.

Skills/Experience/Authorizations Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with baggage handling systems.

  • Technical Diploma or relevant education in a related field.

  • RAIC Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain such clearance.

  • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems and their functions.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, SCADA, and CMMS software.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to comprehend and apply strategic insights and values.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and endure standing and bending for extended periods.

  • RAIC Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain such clearance.
