About the role

US Federal Solutions is seeking a Technical Writer / Documentation Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the U.S. Coast Guard. This role is dedicated exclusively to PWS Task Area 2.3 and is responsible for producing, standardizing, and improving a high volume of acquisition and operational documentation.

You’ll be the person who ensures Coast Guard documentation is clear, consistent, compliant, and ready for leadership review or audit at any time. If you’ve built documentation programs in DHS or DoD environments and you take pride in clean, compliant deliverables, this is a strong fit.

What you’ll do

  • Own the end-to-end production and standardization of 300+ deliverables annually, ensuring quality, consistency, and on-time delivery
  • Develop and refine acquisition and program documentation (templates, guides, SOPs, reports, briefings, and other formal deliverables)
  • Ensure documents meet Section 508 compliance requirements and are accessible, properly formatted, and publication-ready
  • Establish and enforce documentation standards (style guides, templates, version control, naming conventions, review workflows)
  • Edit and quality-check documents for clarity, accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness
  • Coordinate inputs and reviews across multiple stakeholders to drive timely approvals and reduce rework
  • Maintain document libraries and support continuous improvement of documentation processes

Requirements

Required qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Proven technical writing and documentation leadership experience in DHS and/or DoD environments
  • Strong experience developing acquisition-related documents (e.g., SOW/PWS support content, SOPs, program documentation, formal correspondence, reporting)
  • Demonstrated expertise in Section 508 compliance and accessible document production
  • Ability to manage high-volume deliverable production while maintaining quality and consistency
  • Strong editing skills and attention to detail (grammar, structure, formatting, and document control)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and producing polished PDFs
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a government environment

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience building or managing documentation standards programs (templates, style guides, QA checklists)
  • Familiarity with procurement-sensitive content handling and audit-readiness expectations
  • Experience supporting technical or operational organizations with multiple stakeholders and fast turnaround times
