Lead cross-functional teams through full product development lifecycle to deliver next-generation bioprocessing tools by managing complex bioprocess systems integration.

About Us:

Culture’s mission is to simplify and accelerate bioprocess development to enable our customers to bring their biopharmaceutical products to market faster.

With a focus on upstream cell culture process development, Culture has developed a unique platform that merges products, services and data management that can be applied to mammalian, microbial and viral vector production processes. This platform enables high-throughput process development projects to be rapidly and seamlessly executed directly by our customers in their own facilities, in our service laboratories, or both, all driven by our cloud-connected web application, accessible from anywhere, for designing, managing and analyzing experiments.

At Culture, we combine our passions for biomanufacturing, engineering, and operations to build new solutions that make bioprocess development and scale-up faster. We value collaboration for exceptional results, innovate with purpose, and earn our customers’ trust every day.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a high-caliber Technical Project Manager to join our R&D Engineering team. This role sits at the intersection of biology, hardware engineering, and cloud computing. You will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams through the full product development lifecycle to deliver next-generation bioprocessing tools.

The ideal candidate possesses a rare blend of hardware intuition, software savvy, and an understanding of how cloud infrastructure enables modern laboratory automation and data analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end integrated project delivery of complex bioprocess systems involving electromechanical hardware, embedded firmware, and cloud-based control software.
  • Oversee the development and deployment of cloud applications that manage device telemetry, remote monitoring, and large-scale bioprocess data analytics (AWS/GCP environments).
  • Bridge the gap between Hardware Engineers (sensors, fluidics), Software Engineers (IoT, Frontend/Backend), and Bioprocess Scientists to ensure technical requirements are aligned and met.
  • Manage the unique challenge of "Hardware-Software Synchronicity"—combining short duration agile / shape-up sprints for cloud/software updates with the longer-lead Waterfall/Phase gate milestones of hardware development.
  • Proactively identify technical bottlenecks and manage risks associated with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain project schedules and folders - use of automation is highly encouraged to manage and communicate changes in real time.
  • Translate complex technical projects into clear progress reports for executive leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience in a technical R&D environment.
  • Proven track record of managing projects that involve physical laboratory/industrial hardware integrated with a software stack.
  • Experience managing delivery of SaaS or Cloud Application development, including familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, APIs, and data architecture.

Preferred Skills:

  • Mastery of Jira, Linear, Smartsheet, MS Project (or similar PLM tools).
  • Experience in ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with bioprocessing workflows (e.g., bioreactor, chromatography, or filtration systems).
  • Experience working in R&D project management in biotech

Why This Role:

  • You will be at the forefront of the "Digital Transformation" in biotechnology. Your work won't just be about managing schedules; it will be about building the infrastructure that allows scientists to develop life-saving therapies faster and more reliably.

Location & Schedule:

  • This is a hybrid position. We’re looking for someone based in the greater San Francisco Bay Area who is able to work in person at our sites in South San Francisco 3-4 days per week to support business needs.

Base Salary Range:

Culture Biosciences's compensation package includes market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and great benefits. Our expected salary range for this role is $150,0000-$175,000. We are hiring for multiple levels and backgrounds so final offers may vary within the range provided based on experience, expertise, and other factors.
