Technical Deputy Program Manager

Suitland-Silver Hill , United States
full-time On-site

AI overview

Lead large-scale IT infrastructure programs at the Census Bureau while managing diverse teams across cloud operations with a focus on modernization and high-availability systems.

We are seeking a high-caliber Technical Deputy Program Manager (DPM) to partner with the Program Manager in leading a large-scale, mission-critical contract for the Census Bureau. You will provide the technical guidance between high-level program management and the engineering teams to execute Data Center and Cloud Operations.

This role will require you to possess the depth to challenge architectural decisions and the breadth to manage diverse workstreams across Compute, Storage, Networking, and Multi-Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) ecosystems.  You will oversee the balance between maintaining high-availability legacy environments (on-premises data centers) and driving the aggressive modernization of services into the cloud.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Oversee daily technical operations across on-premises data centers and hybrid cloud environments.

·       Work with the customers to shape requirements and develop roadmaps and plans.

·       Act as the primary bridge between the program office and the technical leads (e.g., Operations and Engineering) to ensure project plans and schedules are met.

·       Proactively identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks across the program whether they are technical, procedural, or resource-based to improve operations

·       Manage optimized staffing levels across multiple shifts to ensure high-priority engineering projects do not compromise the stability of baseline operations.

·       Spearhead a comprehensive review of the program’s Knowledge Base, replacing outdated documentation with "living" wikis and version-controlled scripts that ensure consistency across all shifts and locations.

Requirements

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field

·       8+ years in IT Infrastructure, with at least 3 years in a leadership/management capacity for large-scale data center/cloud contracts (~$50M+ in value)

·       Ability to manage difficult / highly demanding customers by setting realistic expectations and translating technical setbacks into business-risk assessments

·       Proven Experience breaking down "silos" between operations and engineering teams to achieve project outcomes.

·       Ability to perform "Root Cause Analysis" on the program’s processes, finding where technical debt or resources are slowing down program/service delivery.

·       Certification: PMP and ITIL Foundations
