Business Insider is seeking a full-time tech reporter to cover artificial intelligence 

AI is reshaping everything, and BI is looking for an aggressive, creative reporter who can break news, land scoops, and write with authority about the people, businesses, and money driving the AI revolution. From the companies and startups building the technology, the investors backing it, and the businesses racing to adopt it, this reporter should be driven to give our audience exclusive news on the inner workings of  the AI ecosystem. 

We’re looking for someone who is excited to cover leading AI companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, and fast-growing AI startups and emerging companies building AI infrastructure, chips, and applications. You’ll uncover where the money is flowing across tech, explain how AI technology is being used across various industries, and deliver original, deeply reported stories that clarify where the sector is headed.

This is a position for a journalist who is confident in their ability to produce groundbreaking stories. Access to inside sources within the AI industry is a must, along with the ability to obtain or review internal documents. 

Here are some of the kinds of stories this person would work on:

• EXCLUSIVE: Mira Murati's new AI startup is set to be valued at $9 billion, sources say
• EXCLUSIVE: Google is in talks to pour more money into Anthropic, which could push the AI startup's value to $350 billion
• EXCLUSIVE: Microsoft is trying to poach Meta AI talent and offering multimillion-dollar pay packages, internal documents show 

This role is based in the Bay Area. It is union-eligible.

Key Responsibilities:

• Juggle three main story types expertly: faster scoops, medium-term exclusive features, and deeper dives. 
• Generate original, actionable ideas that drive conversation and excite our readers. 
• Maintain and build a strong network of sources.
• Promote your own work across multiple platforms to drive impact

The ideal candidate has:

• A strong network of industry sources (or the hustle to build one fast)
• A deep curiosity about AI’s technical and business foundations, and the drive to uncover what others miss
• Experience breaking news on important, competitive beats
• Strong organization and communication skills
• The ability to self-motivate and meet deadlines
• The ability to write quickly and concisely under time pressure
• Experience utilizing different mediums such as video, newsletters, or live events to showcase your journalism is a plus

Salary & Benefits:

• Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
