Overview BPM — where caring and community are in our company DNA. As a Tax Manager in our Flow‑Through group, you will lead real‑estate–focused partnership and S‑corp engagements, mentor a high‑performing team, and deliver proactive tax planning to help clients invest, build, and scale with confidence. Working with BPM means using your experiences, broadening your skills, and reaching your full potential in work and life—while also making a positive difference for your clients, colleagues, and communities. Our shared entrepreneurial spirit drives us to see and do things differently. Our passion for people makes BPM a place where everyone feels welcome, valued, and part of something bigger. Because People Matter. What you'll do:
  • Lead and review federal and multi‑state compliance for flow‑through entities (Forms 1065, 1120‑S, K‑1s), with emphasis on real estate partnerships, joint ventures, funds, and REIT‑adjacent structures.
  • Advise on complex partnership tax matters: Sections 704(b)/(c) capital accounts and allocations, §754 elections, debt allocations (recourse/nonrecourse/qualified nonrecourse), special allocations and waterfall models, §163(j), §465, basis and at‑risk, and book‑tax differences.
  • Plan and model transactions for acquisitions/dispositions, including cost segregation coordination, §1031 like‑kind exchanges, step‑up considerations, and entity structuring.
  • Manage SALT exposure across California and other jurisdictions (apportionment, filing methodologies, local gross‑receipts taxes) and coordinate with internal SALT specialists when needed.
  • Coach and develop staff and seniors: set clear expectations, review workpapers, deliver actionable feedback, and support CPA/MST development.
  • Drive client service: own engagement economics, timelines, and quality; communicate proactively with client executives, controllers, and fund managers.
  • Contribute to practice growth through scoping proposals, participating in business development calls, and strengthening relationships across Southern California.
  • Leverage technology (CCH Axcess/ProSystem/GoSystem/OneSource, workflow tools, and data utilities) to improve accuracy and cycle time.
  • Qualifications:
  • CPA license required (or active progress toward licensure); MST/MBT preferred.
  • 5–8+ years of recent public accounting experience in flow‑through taxation with significant real estate exposure (commercial/residential, development, funds, private equity real estate).
  • Demonstrated strength in partnership tax concepts (capital accounts, allocations, basis, debt, waterfalls).
  • REIT experience (income/asset testing, UPREIT structures) is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency in researching complex issues and communicating concise guidance to clients and teams.
  • Strong project management skills; comfortable leading multiple concurrent engagements in a hybrid environment.
  • What we offer:
  • Total rewards with flexible work arrangements and compensation options that give you choice and flexibility.
  • Well‑being resources including an interactive wellness platform, EAP and mental‑health resources, and Colleague Resource Groups.
  • Balance & flexibility with Firm Holidays, Flex PTO, paid family leave, winter break, summer hours, and remote work options.
  • Professional development via CPA exam resources and bonuses, tuition reimbursement, coaching, and BPM University classes, workshops, and seminars.
