The Tax Associate is responsible for supporting the company’s tax compliance and reporting obligations while assisting in tax planning initiatives under the guidance of senior tax leadership. This position is ideal for an entry- to mid-level professional who has a foundational understanding of taxation and seeks to expand technical expertise and business acumen. The Tax Associate will work closely with the Director of Tax to ensure accurate filings, efficient tax processes, and adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Reporting
Prepare and assist in filing federal, state, and local income tax returns.
Support the calculation and filing of sales & use tax, property tax, and other business taxes.
Assist with the preparation of annual tax provisions in compliance with ASC 740 (if applicable).
Maintain accurate tax workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation.
Addressing tax notices and following up with them with various jurisdictions
Tax Research & Analysis
Research tax laws, rulings, and regulations to support compliance and planning activities.
Prepare technical memos and summaries for review by senior tax staff.
Audit Support
Assist in gathering data and responding to inquiries during tax audits.
Maintain organized records to support tax positions and minimize risk.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with Finance, Accounting, and other departments to gather tax-related information.
Provide basic tax support on business transactions and projects as needed.
Professional Development
Stay current with evolving tax regulations and participate in ongoing learning.
Work under the mentorship of senior tax staff to build technical and analytical skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2 years of experience in tax, public accounting, or a related field.
CPA designation or progress toward certification is a plus.
Knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax regulations; exposure to ASC 740 preferred.
Proficiency in tax compliance software (e.g., PTMS) and Alteryx.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
