Position Overview

 We are seeking a high-impact SVP, Business Development to lead and elevate BGB’s new business function. This senior executive will be responsible for defining the agency’s new business strategy, driving pitch excellence, expanding BGB’s client portfolio, and securing high-value opportunities that advance our long-term growth.

The SVP, Business Development is a highly visible leader who sits at the center of BGB’s most competitive engagements—mobilizing teams, shaping compelling narratives, and forging relationships with senior biopharmaceutical stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a master storyteller, and an exceptional orchestrator who thrives in fast-paced pitch environments and understands how to transform insights, science, and creativity into winning business.

Specific Responsibilities 

New Business Ownership & Leadership

  • Serve as the executive lead for BGB’s new business pipeline—owning strategy, qualification, prioritization, and advancement of prospective opportunities.
  • Drive development of pitch strategies, overarching narratives, and value propositions that differentiate BGB in competitive review processes.
  • Lead early conversations with prospective clients, representing BGB’s breadth of capabilities and strategic POV.

Pitch Leadership & Narrative Development

  • Create high-impact pitch storylines in partnership with Creative, Strategy, Medical, and Engagement Strategy leads.
  • Ensure all pitch materials—from insight to creative concept to omnichannel plan—are integrated, persuasive, and aligned to client needs.
  • Drive consistency of storytelling, strategic clarity, and scientific integrity across all new business presentations and materials.

Cross-Functional Pitch Orchestration

  • Mobilize and lead multidisciplinary pitch teams, ensuring alignment across workstreams, timelines, and expectations.
  • Drive operational excellence throughout the pitch lifecycle, from RFI/RFP evaluation through final presentation.
  • Collaborate with PMO and Operations to ensure pitch work is delivered on time, on message, and at the highest level of quality.

Prospecting, Networking & Relationship Development

  • Build and nurture relationships with senior commercial, marketing, and medical leaders across the pharma and biotech ecosystem.
  • Proactively identify high-value prospects, therapeutic areas, and brand opportunities aligned with BGB’s capabilities and growth strategy.
  • Represent BGB at conferences, industry events, and thought leadership forums to elevate agency visibility and unlock new opportunities.

RFP, Proposal & Capabilities Development

  • Own development of RFI/RFP responses, scopes of work, budgets, credentials decks, and custom capabilities presentations.
  • Maintain a strong, cohesive agency narrative that conveys BGB’s integrated strengths across science, strategy, and creativity.
  • Continuously refine pitch materials and BD frameworks to enhance efficiency and win rates.

Market Intelligence & Strategic Targeting

  • Monitor industry trends, commercial needs, pipeline activity, and competitive landscapes to inform BD strategy.
  • Recommend strategic areas of focus—therapeutic categories, capabilities, and partnership opportunities—to drive agency expansion.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop BD team members and pitch-supporting staff across disciplines.
  • Foster a culture of competitiveness, excellence, and collaboration across the new business function.
  • Create processes, tools, and best practices that elevate the BD discipline and scale pitch success.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in business development, account leadership, or commercial strategy within healthcare advertising, medical communications, or the broader life sciences industry.
  • Proven success leading high-value pitches and securing multimillion-dollar partnerships.
  • Strong familiarity with scientific, strategic, and creative agency functions and how they integrate during pitches.

Skills & Expertise

  • Exceptional storytelling, persuasive communication, and executive presentation abilities.
  • Deep relationship-building expertise with senior pharmaceutical and biotech stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical thinking with experience assessing market opportunities and shaping growth strategy.
  • Expert at orchestrating complex cross-functional teams and managing high-pressure pitch cycles.

Leadership

  • Inspiring, confident, and decisive leader who can influence senior stakeholders and guide teams through ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring BD talent and modeling best-in-class business development behavior.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (MBA, MPH, MS, or related).

Salary Range: $200,000 - $250,000 base salary + bonus eligibility

The salary range provided represents what a potential hire may expect to earn in this role at BGB. Actual salary decisions will be influenced by several factors that we use to determine overall fit, including experience (both direct and indirect), education, training, demonstrated qualifications, and organizational need. Salary is only one component of the total rewards package offered at BGB Group.
