Primary Function of Position
We are looking for a Data Science Intern who will support our Supply Chain Planning team. Minimizing supply chain risk and optimizing our planning operations including demand and supply planning, inventory optimization will ensure surgeons and their associated institutions will have the products needed to succeed in providing better patient outcomes. The ideal candidate should be highly skilled in data analytics including visualization and use advanced data modeling, predictive modeling, and advanced data and AI techniques to interpret key findings from company data and translate these insights into initiatives that will support business outcomes. By the end of the internship, you will deliver: A production‑ready prototype (or MVP) for 1-2 planning use cases (e.g. Automated parameter tuning, or exception management/Triage using ML). Finally, the intern will deliver an Executive‑friendly readout and reproducible assets (code, notebooks, documentation). The internship is office‑based with collaboration across cross‑functional teams including Supply Chain Planning, Data Engineering, IT, and Analytics.
Essential Job Duties
Work with business users to identify opportunities for data science value adds
Research/Model data and build comprehensive reports and dashboards that enhance business area
Use business data, statistical methods and/or suitable ML techniques to provide insight into business performance and suggest areas and methods of improving operations.
Present insights and recommendations to management for judgment making and strategic planning.
Work with data analysts and business users at Global Operations to enable reports that maintain long-term value.
Utilize cutting edge technologies such as Gen AI, Agentic AI to provide business value
Develop and automate reports, iteratively build and prototype dashboards and data products to provide insights at scale, solving for data needs.
Be a pioneer in the data space and present your research and insights to all levels of the company
Example Project Tracks:
Planner Exception Intelligence: Build a model to prioritize which signals/exceptions planners address first; measure reduction in review time by ≥20%.
Inventory Parameter Optimization: Use ML to recommend safety stock or reorder points per SKU‑location aligned to target service levels; simulate improvements in stockouts and inventory turns
Required Skills and Experience
Experience in either Python or R ecosystem providing data-based solutions
Knowledge of and experience using data-based concepts and statistical techniques; Practical knowledge of Machine Learning techniques and Big Data analysis and predictive analytics
Experience working with databases and creating dashboards / other data products using all relevant data to inform outcomes.
Excellent SQL skills, ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries.
Proven problem solving, quantitative and data abilities.
Statistical Skills and method familiarity
Inquisitiveness with a desire for continuous improvement
Required Education and Training
Current enrollment in a Quantitative (Statistics, Computer Science, Math, Data Science), Supply Chain Management or related degree seeking program at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate), benefits, and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
