Job Overview:
As a Supervising Producer you will report to and work with senior members of the creative team including Executive Producers and Content Leadership. You will develop new ideas, concepts, and formats, execute deliverables related to current projects, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
DEVELOPMENT AND PRE-PRO

  • Collaboration and Team
    • Complete tasks as assigned and directed by EP and leadership 
    • Where OOH budgets may not allow, assist in the creation of deck slides for pre-production needs
    • Consistently communicate on all aspects of shows with EP and leadership so that creative vision is successfully executed
    • Attend and participate in all internal and external creative meetings
    • In conjunction with the EP, oversee all aspects of creative on a class from development through launch
    • In conjunction with the EP, review and/or produce visual decks, curriculum outlines, shooting outlines, graphics, music, rough cuts, fine cuts, final narration and final versions of all assigned content
    • Take ownership of deliverables with attention to detail
    • Use new tools and technologies to enhance production quality and efficiency, including AI tools
    • Communicate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including marketing, product, comms, R&C, and research teams
    • Attend weekly meetings and provide updates on project status to cross-functional teams and leadership
    • Read and give constructive notes on pitches, curriculums, and other documents from Producers and Associate Producers
    • Ability to lead the creative on a class when necessary
  • Instructor Selection
    • Research instructor(s) and any existing materials relevant to classes
    • Identify “best-in-class” instructors that fit the brand and business needs of MasterClass
    • Identify potential for class sales by researching the audience of instructors based on social media following, book sales, YT following, etc.
    • Data test instructors and topics or, if needed, gather insights from Insights Team on topic interest or instructors
    • Pitch casting options and provide notes, guidance, and feedback to EP
    • Attend and participate in all internal and external talent meetings
  • Research and Development
    • Research other ideas in the space/genre/topic to ensure we have a unique offering that’s not on other streamers
    • Understand wider audience needs (TAM) when ideating class topics
    • Ideate and develop multiple options and formats for classes and pitch internally (first to your direct supervisor(s), and with their approval, to leadership)
    • In collaboration with EP, and after gaining buy-in from Content Leadership on a format, develop creative brief, show outline, and any additional internal creative materials as assigned
    • Work with consultants and talent to craft curriculums and ensure the project stays on brand and meets the MasterClass internal expectations
    • In collaboration with EP and cross functional teams, develop and shape the creative expectations of the class from the look to the learnings
    • Work with the director and OOH producers as they further develop creative materials
    • Write creative briefs, one-pagers, and outlines and contribute to the documented research of topics and instructors for briefs as assigned by EP
    • Collaborate with stakeholders, like Rights & Clearances, marketing, graphics, set design, and production management prior to the shoot so all are aligned on goals, visual aesthetics, and expectations
    • Ensure that the creative stays within financial guidelines and alert the EP if there are roadblocks
    • The ability to write thought provoking and engaging interview questions that illicit learnings

PRODUCTION

  • Attend shoots in person and oversee the shoot from a creative standpoint in conjunction with the EP
  • Contribute to formulation of pickup interview questions during a shoot (whether remote from zoom or on set) to ensure continuity and maximize the effectiveness of the class content
  • Assist in refining creative materials specific to each OCP and their specific areas of expertise as assigned
  • Must have the skillset to be an interviewer on set, although this will not always be the case

POST

  • In conjunction with EP and OOH production company, oversee music selection to help shape the class 
  • Review cuts, provide feedback to editors and OOH producers, and work directly with the OOH production team to refine the classes structure.
  • Contribute to beta testing request documents

OVERALL

  • Staying organized, keeping things in a digestible format, and meeting deadlines or alerting EP if there are roadblocks
  • Produce other tasks as assigned by EP
  • Extensive experience engaging with high-profile individuals through presenting pitches, conducting interviews, and providing briefings
  • Ability to lead internal and external meetings with senior level management and OOH production companies, when necessary

Requirements:

  • 9-12 years min professional experience in a creative role for a production company, streamer, or network
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, fostering teamwork and alignment across multiple departments and disciplines
  • Excited to work with a small interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience developing new concepts and formats
  • Experience interacting with and interviewing top-tier talent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Experience producing non-fiction and/or educational video content
  • Adept at writing pitches and show treatments
  • Experience as an EP/Supervising Producer shepherding projects from development through delivery
  • Experience creating show pitches, outlines, treatments, visual decks, and curriculums
  • Experience creating varied content across multiple subjects from business to wellness to science to the arts, as well as different class types like demos, interviews, follow docs, etc.    
  • Adept at managing multiple projects, competing tasks, and self-directing in a dynamic setting, consistently meeting deadlines with minimal oversight
  • Experience producing on-set and in post production 
  • Experience managing team members, such as producers and associate producers
  • Experience working in a professional environment
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States

The salary range listed is for NYC/CA/WA. As a company, we have a location based strategy, which means the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.

MasterClass’s salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry. In addition to salary, we also offer equity and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, flexible PTO, and more). The range listed is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted.
