OceanaGold is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Superintendent – Small Projects, who will directly manage the delivery of all small projects in the Capital Projects Department Portfolio from initiation to close-out, including coordination of engineering, design and estimation inputs, preparation of project management
documentation, identification and management of project risks, provision of schedule and cost performance data to
project controls, timely resolution of emerging risks and issues during project delivery and completion of all quality
control / assurance and project close-out documentation. This role reports to the Manager – Capital Projects.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Maintain a visible presence in the field whilst on-site by completing minimum thrice-weekly Critical Control Verifications (CCVs) and/or Task Observations with direct reports and peers from the Project Development and Construction teams
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to the Project Execution team in the completion of CCVs and drive accountability for meeting time-in-field safety commitments
  • Establish and maintain systems that ensure that design works for active projects are carried out using the appropriate risk management tools including FRA’s, HAZOP’s, CHAZOP’s, SIL Studies, Design and Constructability Reviews
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to the Project Execution team, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
  • Assist the Manager – Capital Projects in identifying resource skills and opportunities within the Project Execution team and act as the liaison between these resources
  • Create an environment of collaboration between Project Execution Engineers and the Engineering and Construction teams to support delivery of project goals and establish and maintain systems that foster cross-functional collaboration
  • Establish and maintain systems that ensure project documentation is prepared for all phases of project delivery including Concept Studies, User Requirement Specifications (URS), Scope of Work (SoW) and Project Execution Plan (PEP)
  • Drive timely project execution through effective coordination of engineering, procurement, and construction activities
  • Proactively highlight any events that may adversely affect project schedule to the Manager – Capital Projects in a timely fashion
  • Accountable for the maintenance of Quality Management Documentation for projects under management in accordance with the Quality Management Plan including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Field Inspection Checklists (FICs) and Field Test Record (FTR) documents
  • Undertake a program of continuous improvement across all areas of accountability

  • 7+ years’ experience in project delivery within heavy industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field
  • Project management qualifications (desirable)
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise work in-line with project requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to think analytically.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Adherence to confidentiality requirements.
  • Advanced user of MS office suite
  • Advanced user of Ecosys software (training will be provided).
  • Knowledge of construction methods, processes, sequencing and technical standards.
  • Knowledge of the OGP capital approval process and PMF
