Join a friendly team of passionate individuals at Camp Buckner this summer! Be part of the Activities team as a Summer Staff Activities Intern, where you'll support the team in delivering a safe, engaging, and enjoyable experience for guests by facilitating a variety of recreational activities and performing essential daily operational tasks at Camp Buckner.
This role, under supervision, supports ropes course elements, lifeguarding at aquatic activities, and facilitating archery and archery tag sessions. Additionally, the position involves outdoor facility management, including setting up water stations, maintaining sports equipment, and ensuring activity areas are properly prepared and operational. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, guest engagement, and the overall quality of the camp experience.
This supervised internship provides hands-on experience in recreational programming, safety operations, and camp activities under the guidance of certified staff.
What You’ll Do
- Assist certified staff with challenge course, archery, or lifeguarding activities based on training. Assist with retreat activities, ensuring guests are directed and engaged.
- Maintain and inspect activity areas, helping to ensure equipment is safe, organized, and in good condition.
- Support the planning and facilitation of group activities as needed.
- Participate in regular safety inspections and report hazards, incidents, or emergencies promptly.
- Assist with emergency response as trained and directed by supervisors. Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating good sportsmanship and adherence to camp values.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing guest inquiries and concerns.
- Collaborate with staff to coordinate schedules, activities, and coverage.
- Maintain compliance with all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Attend required meetings, training sessions, and certification drills to ensure readiness.
- Work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, based on business needs.
- Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring:
- Requires a High School Diploma (or G.E.D.).
- Requires a current certification or the willingness to obtain and maintain a Level 1 challenge course certification from an ACCT (Association for Challenge Course Technology) accredited vendor.
- Requires a current certification or the willingness to obtain and maintain certifications in Lifeguarding and Waterfront Skills from a Nationally Recognized Certification Program.
- Requires a current certification or the willingness to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers and Responding to Emergencies: First Aid from a Nationally Recognized Certification Program.
- Thrives in dynamic environments with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Requires proficient ability to speak, read and write English.
- Requires ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions.
- Requires ability to speak clearly and make self understood effectively in face to face interactions; articulate with accuracy when speaking on the phone.
- Requires ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and speak in front of large groups; excellent public speaking and presentation skills required.
- Requires ability to hear and receive verbal instructions, answer phones, communicate with people in situations with some background noise.

- Ability to stand, walk, stand and sit, sometimes for prolonged periods of time.
