The Opportunity
The Gene Therapy Research group is seeking an intern to support basic and translational gene therapy projects in the field of neuromuscular research. Specifically, the intern will probe expression of AAV-encoded transgenes following vector administration in genetic muscular dystrophy. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in cutting edge therapies for genetic diseases. Curiosity, creativity, strong analytical skills and a desire to apply them to solve biological problems are welcome. This position will provide an immersive opportunity to experience aspects of a career in Research at a leading biotechnology company, including intra- and inter-departmental collaboration, designing and performing experiments, data analysis and presentation, all in a state-of-the-art facility.
What You'll Be Doing
Extract DNA/RNA/protein extraction for use in downstream assays like PCR and Western blotting
Process samples for fluorescent or brightfield microscopy and perform imaging experiments
Analyze, interpret, and present data to audiences of diverse backgrounds
Use cell culture models to complement animal studies
Read relevant scientific literature, compile information and report findings
Attend lab and project specific meetings
What We're Looking For
Minimum 2 years of college and currently enrolled in a Biology/Bioengineering/related major.
Strong understanding of biology is required, with some understanding of anatomy and physiology preferred.
Previous research experience in a biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology lab is strongly preferred. Experience in a cardiac or skeletal muscle biology/disease lab is highly desirable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software required. Experience using data analysis and/or graphing software is desirable.
