The ACLU seeks an Undergraduate Social Media Intern in the Communications and Marketing department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This internship can be remote or hybrid.

Qualifying applicants must currently be matriculated undergraduate students or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience and must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.

The Team:

The ACLU Communications department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s transformational work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written content, creative branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to build a more perfect union.

 

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Director of social media, the social media intern will be responsible for assisting the ACLU’s social media team in researching, producing, scheduling, and measuring the performance of content posted across Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and emerging platforms as needed.

Your Day to Day

Interns will gain valuable experience by working with a team on a wide variety of issues. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Produce social media content for Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube as needed
  • Assist social media editors and associates in scheduling content, including during rapid response moments
  • Prepare analytics reports with assistance from social media editors or social media manager 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Experience using TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter for professional, academic, or extracurricular purposes, experience using these platforms for advocacy or organizing work a plus
  • Attention to detail, excellent written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team

Internship Logistics:

  • Location: Our internship program offers a limited number of remote or hybrid intern positions. This internship is full-time from our New York City office and can be remote or hybrid.
  • Time Commitment: Full-time (35 hours/week)
  • Internship Duration: Full-time internships span 10 consecutive weeks. This internship has a start date of: May 26th or June 8th
  • Stipend: A stipend is available for students who are lawfully authorized to work. Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit.

      • $20/hr for undergraduate students or equivalent experience
