CesiumAstro
Summer 2026 - Specialty Engineering Internship
TLDR
Work side-by-side with staff specialty engineers on active space electronics design projects with no paper intern projects, offering hands-on experience in a collaborative environment.
Please Note: To conform with the United States Government Space Technology Export Regulations, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., conditional resident, asylee or refugee (protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.
On the CesiumAstro Specialty Engineering Team, we are responsible for performing specialty analysis and test across a range of disciplines including component, radiation, materials and process, reliability, and EMI/EMC engineering to support all CesiumAstro products including cutting-edge space electronics. We own specialty requirements for our designs from initial concept through manufacturing, test, and delivery, all the way through on-orbit support and anomaly analysis. Designs encompass the full spectrum of electronics design, including high-speed digital, power electronics, and RF hardware – often on the same board.
We’re looking for summer interns to support our mission. Interns work side-by-side with staff specialty engineers contributing to the company’s success is as high of a priority as learning and gaining experience. All intern assignments directly support our active space electronics design; no paper intern projects which never get built! Specific assignments will be determined by a mix of project availability and candidate interests.
A brief overview of work scope for each discipline:
Radiation Engineer
CesiumAstro radiation engineers provided end-to-end support to our mechanical and electrical engineering teams. Assignments will vary from natural space radiation environment definition and shielding to component performance to circuit analysis of single event effects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), or PhD program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited university.
Strong fundamentals in EE or physics topics covered in coursework.
Practical experience designing and building electronics hardware for a research project, competition team, extracurricular activity, prior internship, or advanced engineering course.
Hands-on experience with lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and signal generators.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. CesiumAstro interns regularly present their work to peers, mentors, and executive leadership throughout the course of the summer.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Aerospace experience, such as a previous internship or school CubeSat project.
Familiarity with electronics schematic and layout tools such as Altium.
Familiarity with radiation engineering software such as ray tracing (FASTRAD), environment definition (OMERE, AE/AP9, CRÈME, SPENVIS), or particle transport.
Advanced coursework or research experience in semiconductors or circuit design.
Strong programming skills to support (C/C++, Python, MATLAB, etc.).
Experience with SPICE-based circuit simulation.
All CesiumAstro internships are compensated competitively and located onsite at one of our facilities.
CesiumAstro is an Equal Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected Veteran Status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
