Summer 2025 Undergraduate Intern, Executive Department- National Advocacy Institute team

The ACLU seeks an Undergraduate Intern on the National Advocacy Institute team within the Executive Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York. The Internship will be primarily virtual with some travel required for in-person programming.

The Team:

The ACLU National Advocacy Institute is a program for high-school students from across the United States to participate in a learning experience for the next generation of social justice advocates. At National Advocacy Institute, students engage directly with ACLU lawyers, lobbyists, community activists, and other experts working to defend the civil rights and civil liberties that are critical to a free and open society.

In Summer 2025, the National Advocacy Institute will host three, week-long programs for high school students in Washington, D.C. (ages 15-18):

• Term 1: Sunday July 13- Saturday July 19
• Term 2: Sunday July 20 – Saturday July 26
• Term 3: Sunday July 27 – Saturday August 2

What You’ll Do:

The intern will support the planning and logistics of the programs, assist in student and family services and communication, and promote a smooth facilitation of day-to-day events.

Your Day to Day

• Process student enrollments and flag important student accessibility and accommodations requests
• Assist with data entry, tracking, and database related needs
• Track collaboration with outside vendors supporting the Institute
• Work on program planning and logistics, including the opportunity to plan and facilitate whole aspects of the program

What You’ll Bring:

• Experience working with young people is strongly preferred (camp counselor, Residential Advisors, mentoring, etc.) but not required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• An interest in youth-programming, activism, and advocacy

Internship Logistics:

• Location: Our internship program offers a limited number of remote or hybrid intern positions. This internship is hybrid based in New York.
• Time Commitment: Term-time internships may be completed on a part-time basis (10, 15, or 20 hours/week) or full-time (35 hours/week). Summer internships require a full-time commitment.
• Internship Duration: Full-time internships span 10 consecutive weeks and part-time 12 weeks. This internship has a start date of May 27th or June 9th, 2025.
• Stipend: A stipend is available for students who are lawfully authorized to work and do not receive compensation from other sources. Students with external funding may receive a partial stipend to bring their total funding up to the level of the ACLU’s stipend amount for that term. Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit. Below are the stipend rates:
• $20/hour for undergraduate students or equivalent experience
