Position Overview

Adaptive has a growing Pharma MRD business, which includes a portfolio of more than 140 clinical trials under management. The Pharma MRD group engages with new and existing customers to incorporate the Adaptive NGS-based MRD Assay into studies to evaluate minimal residual disease (MRD) as a prognostic and predictive early biomarker of response to assess depth and duration of response to a variety of cancer therapies. The Adaptive NGS-based MRD Assay was granted de novo designation and marketing authorization by FDA (under Section 513(f)(2) of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act) in patients with multiple myeloma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia under the clonoSEQ® mark.

The Strategic Alliance & Business Development Manager at Adaptive Biotechnologies plays a central role to support the expanding MRD pharma business. The MRD portfolio comprises of exploratory and regulated programs, including high impact, multi-year collaborations and translational partnerships with major biopharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. The Strategic Alliance & Business Development Manager is responsible for supporting and driving ongoing and new business opportunities. This role will contribute  to growing Adaptive’s engagements with biopharmaceutical and biotechnology partners and execution of projects. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Alliance & Business Development, this individual will source, secure, negotiate and close deals with potential industry and institutional customers to leverage Adaptive’s technology platforms, capabilities and expertise. In addition this individual will manage existing customer projects from initiation through completion.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Drive prospecting and acquisition of new business with pharmaceutical/ industry customers
  • Drive negotiation of new contracts and agreements with industry clients
  • Oversee lifecycle management of partnerships/projects, including initiation, contracting, order creation and documentation, and deliverables to external stakeholders
  • Represent Adaptive externally and deliver scientific presentations to identify opportunities
  • Contribute to new bookings and recognized revenue corporate goals
  • Work cross-functionally to manage and deliver deal commitments
  • Support business development strategy and initiatives
  • All other duties as assigned

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)

  • Bachelor’s and 7+ years of experience or Master’s degree with 5+ years experience in academic and biotech industry. Candidates with a PhD and 2 years of post-doc industry experience will also be considered.
  • 3+ years of Clinical Lab, Client Services, Business Development or Alliance Management experience preferred.
  • PhD degree in immunology, cancer biology, or relevant scientific discipline preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of closing transactions.
  • Experience in cellular immunology/biology, PCR or NGS-based assays is preferred.
  • Experience with clinical trials operations/ design is preferred
  • Experience working with internal/external multidisciplinary teams including R&D, Commercial, Legal, IP, Finance and Operations
  • Excellent written communication skills are required, including technical computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and leverage cross-functional resources.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as on a team with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, drive, and energy in building internal and external partnerships and promoting a professional manner.
  • Independent strategic thinker with strong ability to solve complex problems.
  • Excited about an early stage company environment and driven to make a difference.

Working Conditions

  • This position will be field based, may require up to 35% travel from time to time, and a willingness to work according to global hours when needed to support global customers.

Compensation

Salary Range: $128,700 - $193,100

Other compensation elements include:

Adaptive’s posted compensation information includes a base salary (or hourly rate) range and summary of other available total compensation. The base salary range represents a minimum-to-maximum salary (or hourly rate) available to candidates upon extension of offer. Base salary is thoughtfully considered upon offer and is determined through multiple evaluation checks throughout the interview process, including: a candidate’s ability to meet minimum qualifications (skills/experience/education), a candidate’s ability to thoughtfully address preferred qualifications, current market conditions, and internal pay equity. Listed base salary is exclusive of bonus, commission, equity, differential pay, benefits, and other incentives.
