Storage Engineer

Our office is based in Amsterdam, but remote work within the EU is available.

Leaseweb is currently looking for a highly motivated Storage Engineer to join our Cloud Storage team in Amsterdam. The Leaseweb Cloud Storage team delivers cloud storage solutions such as block storage, file storage and object storage. These solutions are based on NetApp technology.  We are looking for an experienced  Storage engineer who can help us support the storage environment.

Many companies simply consume cloud storage. Here at Leaseweb, we ARE the cloud. Are you interested in building and maintaining a hyper-scaler to compete with the big boys in the industry? Do you want to contribute to a true Sovereign European Cloud?

What is the role about?

As a Storage Engineer in the Cloud Storage team, you will help us by supporting with incidents and keeping the storage up to date. You will do this in a multidisciplinary dev-ops team, striving for trust, autonomy, and full ownership of its services. Together with other Storage Engineers and Software Engineers, you will be responsible for day to day management. This involves choosing what hardware to run on, how redundant everything is, what kind of automation to build, how to monitor up-time and performance, and much more. You’ll have influence over the entire customer journey from beginning to end. Your actions will have a major impact, and you will also clearly see the result of your work.

Key responsibilities :

  • Research new technologies and build new products.
  • Collaborate with other departments and vendors to deliver new services to our customers.
  • Support our sales team in understanding customers' needs and defining the best solutions.
  • Care for our customers and build sustainable long-term relationships with them.
  • Make sure our services are monitored and always up and running.
  • Be the 3rd support level, sometimes on-call, and solve those problems no one else could.

What we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of storage products, preferably NetApp.
  • Knowledge of protocols such as NFS, iSCSI, CIFS, S3.
  • Additional knowledge about the products we use is a plus:
    • Ceph storage
    • Microsoft products (AD, DNS, and Servers).
    • Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian).
    • Datacenter networking.
  • Experience with automation tools/scripting is also a plus:
    • PowerShell
    • Other scripting languages like e.g. Python, Perl, or Bash (Although you will have work with Software Engineers who will develop automation in PHP)
    • Chef or Ansible (We use Chef)
  • Strong team player, able to be part and support a culture of trust, autonomy, and collaboration.
  • Self-motivated and driven by the will to provide excellent services to our customers.
  • Good command of written and spoken English (Dutch would be an advantage)

Do you have experience building storage environments? Are you interested in taking those skills to the next level? We’d love to talk to you!

You don’t check all the boxes?
The lists above are about the technologies that we use, and it would be great if we find someone who ticks all the boxes. There aren’t many people who are experienced with everything we use. Is managing storage equipment on a datacenter scale something you’re interested in, but not quite within your skillset yet? If you have some system administration skills and are willing to learn, we are willing to teach! For this job specifically, we only require storage experience.
