We seek an experienced Startup Accountant to execute tax remittances (PAYE, NHF, NSITF, ITF, CIT, Pension) on behalf of our Nigeria employees and clients, which currently comprise over 500 employees from all 36 states and over 100 organizations. The role thus combines accounting with customer service, creating uniquely high expectations for timeliness, accuracy, and problem-solving.
What does the job involve
Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and financial statements for our Nigeria subsidiary.
Assist in the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and financial analysis reports for our Nigeria subsidiary.
Manage statutory deductions and remittances to authorities (PAYE, NHF, NSITF, ITF, CIT, Pension) for our employees and clients.
Manage accounts payable and receivable processes for Nigeria, including processing invoices, issuing payments, and monitoring outstanding balances.
Assist in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Participate in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of financial reports and schedules.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
Stay updated on accounting principles, financial regulations, and industry best practices.
Assist in making periodic payments and reconciliations of our bank accounts.
Assist support in checking the status of payments done via our systems and take any necessary action depending on received status.
Act as a liaison between we and our payment partners in managing all accounts accordingly.
ICAN or CFA certification
2+ years of experience in full-time accounting or finance roles in Nigeria
Experience directly servicing external clients namely in statutory deductions and remittances, as well as with internal teams in a startup-driven environment is a must.
Comfort with the fast-paced, growth-oriented, loosely structured startup approach
Proven track record managing timely and accurate statutory deductions and remittances for multiple entities at a time
Keen knowledge of Nigerian tax and accounting regulations and systems.
Expert proficiency in Quick books and Google Sheets
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with teams.
