Forbes Advisor is looking for a staff writer with writing and editing experience to join the loans team. The loans section oversees consumer lending products, including personal loans, student loans, mortgages, auto loans, small business loans and other credit-related products.

The loans team at Forbes Advisor covers a broad range of content, from timely news and explainers on interest rates and lending trends to in-depth guides that help consumers choose the best loan for their needs. The team also develops tools, calculators and methodologies to evaluate and rank lending products, helping readers compare options and understand the true cost of borrowing. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Write helpful, accurate and engaging news stories, explainers, how-tos, roundups, best-ofs and product reviews related to consumer lending 
  • Work under daily deadlines and update stories in a timely manner as rates, terms and market conditions change 
  • Leverage data and SEO best practices when writing, editing and reporting 
  • Help the lead editor build and scale content efforts in the loans vertical 
  • Assist and collaborate with internal teams in developing methodologies to rate and rank lending products and services for best-ofs (e.g., best personal loans, best mortgage lenders, best student loans) 
  • Brainstorm and contribute to newsletters and other editorial initiatives and features 
  • Adhere to Forbes Advisor style guidelines when writing and editing 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in loans, consumer finance or financial journalism.  
  • At least 2–4 years of experience in online journalism and writing-focused roles 
  • Comfortable working with data, including analyzing datasets, interpreting lender terms and rates, and using data to inform and strengthen editorial content 
  • Strong understanding of consumer lending and credit products, or enthusiasm to learn 
  • Experience with SEO best practices preferred 
  • Organized and detail-oriented 
  • Nimble and open to quick changes in strategy and coverage needs
