Position Title:  Staff Tax Accountant 

 

Position Summary 

The Staff Tax Accountant is a dual role responsible for preparing and analyzing state and local sales/use and franchise tax returns, and will be responsible for completing the monthly accounting reporting for a segment of the business along with other accounting responsibilities as needed. The Accountant/Tax Specialist regularly communicates with the company’s functional leaders, auditors, and regulators, as well as the corporate accounting team.  

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Tax Responsibilities 

  • Files state, and local tax documents by preparing property tax returns, municipal returns, extensions, and quarterly payments. 

  • Prepares and files multi state sales and use tax and franchise tax returns 

  • Prepares tax provision schedules by reviewing, preparing, and consolidating provision schedules. 

  • Recommends tax strategies by researching federal, state, and local taxation issues. 

  • Maintains legislative materials by reviewing, interpreting, and implementing new or revised laws. 

  • Maintains compliance with regulations by forwarding required information to federal, state, and local authorities. 

  • Revises procedures by developing and streamlining procedures and worksheets for calculation of tax provisions. 

  • Respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies 

  • Perform tax research, staying up to date on changes 

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. 

  • Other Tax items as needed.  

  • Accounting Responsibilities (ad-hoc) 

  • Support month-end and year-end close process 

  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results 

  • Other duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/ Tax/ Finance or higher from an accredited college or university

  • 2+ years of related experience

  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel (and other Microsoft Office products) 

  • Working towards industry certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) preferred 

  • Netsuite experience preferred  

  • Experience in tax accounting within a high growth tech firm preferred
