The Planner Evaluation team works on one of the key challenges in autonomous driving: measuring and improving the quality of the software that drives the car. We are looking for experienced data-minded software engineers and data scientists to help us improve how we characterize and evaluate changes to the Onboard software stack (Planner, Perception, etc). If you are passionate about autonomous vehicles and how to use rich, complex data to drive decision-making, this is the role for you!
In this hybrid role, you will report to an Engineering Manager.
You will:
Lead and manage the team that build data platforms for large-scale evaluation of the Waymo Driver software, streamlining eval data set curation, sampling & slicing, and enabling data-driven decision making;
Define long-term strategy, develop roadmaps, and guide the team to execute projects from ambiguous requirements to high-impact deliverables;
Collaborate with Data Science and Quantitative Analytics teams in understanding their data needs & build infra solutions that solve their problems.
You have:
Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
5+ years of experience in the field of software engineering
Hands-on experience with distributed systems that ingest, store, transform, and output data at scale
Proficiency in C++ or Python in a production environment
Solid technical leadership in defining vision, strategy and priorities
Strong technical communication and collaboration skills
We prefer:
2+ years of experience in team management
Experience with A/B experiment infrastructure
Exposure to ad-hoc data analysis with SQL
Experience working in the AV industry
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
