Staff Software Engineer, Platform Infrastructure (Remote)

AI overview

Drive the evolution of ezCater's internal platform through the design and development of a Kubernetes-based infrastructure, enhancing scalability and operational excellence.

ezCater is the leading food for work technology company in the US, connecting anyone who needs food for their workplace to over 100,000 restaurants nationwide. For workplaces, ezCater provides flexible and scalable solutions for everything from recurring employee meals to one-off meetings, all backed by 24/7 customer service with real humans. ezCater also enables companies to manage their food spend in a single, customizable platform. For restaurant partners, ezCater helps them grow their business by bringing them more orders and new high-value customers.  We're backed by top investors including Insight, Iconiq, Lightspeed, GIC, SoftBank, and Quadrille.

The Platform Infrastructure team at ezCater is responsible for the cloud, runtime, and operational foundations that all product and platform teams build upon. This includes how services are deployed, observed, scaled, secured, and operated in production.

As a Staff Software Engineer, Platform Infrastructure, you are a senior technical leader focused on building and evolving ezCater’s internal platform: the Kubernetes-based runtime, core infrastructure services, and operational tooling that enable teams to ship reliably and at scale. This is a true Platform Engineering role — deeply technical, highly cross-cutting, and measured by the leverage it creates for the broader engineering organization.

As ezCater modernizes its architecture and builds a new platform for future growth, the Platform Infrastructure team will provide the foundation that everything else depends on. The Staff Software Engineer, Platform Infrastructure is going to play a critical role in ensuring that this foundation is scalable, observable, and built to support the next decade of ezCater’s growth.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and evolve ezCater’s cloud and runtime platform, including Kubernetes (EKS) and supporting infrastructure
  • Own platform primitives and services that standardize how teams deploy, operate, and observe systems in production
  • Ensure engineering teams can deploy and operate services with minimal friction and high confidence
  • Drive reliability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence across platform-managed services
  • Establish architectural standards and best practices for service runtime, networking, configuration, and deployment
  • Partner with new platform engineers to ensure infrastructure enables — rather than constrains — platform capabilities
  • Build observability foundations using OpenTelemetry and tools such as Datadog, Sumo Logic, or similar
  • Lead through technical execution and influence
  • Mentor engineers across the organization on cloud-native and operational best practices
  • Raise the bar for platform reliability, clarity, and long-term maintainability

What you have:

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant focus on platform or infrastructure engineering
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes and managed container platforms (EKS strongly preferred)
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure on AWS
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Go or Python
  • Deep understanding of observability, including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting
  • Experience building scalable, highly available distributed systems
  • Strong grasp of performance tuning, capacity planning, and reliability engineering concepts
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating across many teams
  • Friendly, flexible and pragmatic approach to work
