Position Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer at Diligent, you will design and build scalable, secure, and high-performance services that power our governance SaaS platform. You’ll work primarily with a MERN-style stack—Node.js, TypeScript, React, and modern front-end frameworks—and deploy cloud-native services on AWS.

You will own services end-to-end, contribute to architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate closely with Product, Security, and DevOps teams. You’ll also help teams adopt practical AI capabilities responsibly, focusing on real business value, quality, and governance rather than experimentation for its own sake.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain secure, high-performing microservices using Node.js and TypeScript on AWS.

  • Lead architectural discussions across front-end and back-end systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Develop modern, responsive user experiences using React (and related frameworks such as Next.js where applicable).

  • Identify system bottlenecks and technical debt, proposing and driving improvements across teams.

  • Partner with Product, Security, and DevOps to shape technical roadmaps and ensure compliance and platform stability.

  • Introduce and guide AI-enabled enhancements where they add clear value (automation, insights, developer productivity), with proper governance and monitoring.

  • Own projects end-to-end—from design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

  • Mentor engineers on best practices in full-stack development, system design, and modern engineering workflows.

  • Stay current with evolving technologies, cloud services, and AI standards, applying them thoughtfully to the platform.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 8-10 years of experience building secure, scalable applications in agile environments.

  • Strong hands-on expertise with Node.js and TypeScript (primary backend skills).

  • Solid experience with React and modern front-end development practices.

  • Experience building API-driven and microservices-based systems.

  • Proficiency with AWS (serverless and/or container-based architectures).

  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK or Terraform), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience working with databases (SQL preferred; NoSQL exposure is a plus but not mandatory).

  • Strong understanding of security best practices, including IAM, secrets management, and secure API design.

  • Practical exposure to AI-assisted development or AI-enabled features, with awareness of bias, privacy, and governance considerations.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence engineering standards and culture.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
