The Staff Satellite Electro-Mechanical Engineer will participate in the development, building, and testing of hardware for E-Space satellites including PCBs, harnesses, mechatronics, etc. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering with at least 5 years of electro-mechanical design including harnessing and PCB mechanical work.
This position reports to the Director of Electrical Engineering and will work closely with the Electrical, Software, and Systems Engineering teams. This role is based in our Saratoga, CA office.
What you’ll be doing:
- Work with various engineering disciplines on concepts and requirements for spacecraft harnesses, coax, PCBs, enclosures, motors, etc.
- End to end ownership of harnessing including 3D design, drawing creation, prototyping, and manufacturing support
- Own the mechanical packaging of rigid and flex PCBs from system level to detailed level including form factors, mounting, interconnect, environmental considerations, etc.
- Mechatronics design support and validation
- Interface with systems engineering on ICDs, spacecraft AI&T, system testing, etc.
What you bring to this role:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
- 10+ years of experience in electro-mechanical engineering
- Skilled with CAD and harness design tools
- Familiarity with harness design best practices including applicable IPC standards
- Familiarity with rigid and flex PCB technologies
- Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency with basic lab equipment like multimeters, soldering irons, crimpers, and hand tools
- Experienced with DFX, FMEA, and similar production requirements
Bonus points for the following:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
- Experience with Solidworks, Zuken, or similar
- Experience with mechatronics, including motors and electro-mechanical actuators
- Familiarity with NASA, ECSS, or SAE standards for PCB and harness design and manufacturing
- Experience with coax cable and RF signal basics
- Experience with Altium Designer or other PCB design tools
- Experience designing for space environments
This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office. The target base pay for this position is $150,000 - $220,000 annually. The total compensation packaged will be determined by various factors such as your relevant job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
