Staff Reporter

Founded in 2009 as a forum for playful, serious, and radical perspectives on art in society, Hyperallergic combines art world news coverage with insightful commentary to reach an influential audience of over one million readers a month.

Hyperallergic is seeking a full-time Staff Reporter to join our growing team in Brooklyn, NY. The ideal candidate is a rigorous, well-informed observer of the arts who is able to write succinctly for a general audience, has an active social media presence, and can write on a diverse array of topics in different article formats, from thoroughly researched features to discerning analyses of memes and online culture. 

The Staff Reporter will be expected to:

• Proactively pitch news and analysis daily, sourcing stories from online sources and their personal network
• Conduct research and write two articles daily on a tight deadline
• Attend and report on off-site events, including protests and other actions
• Report on a diverse range of topics, including arts activism, international current events, archaeological discoveries, and more
• Help cultivate Hyperallergic’s audience on social media and beyond

This position is based out of our Brooklyn, NY office.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in art journalism, ideally with a focus on the visual arts
• Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills
• Ethical judgment
• The ability to work collaboratively on a team, with generosity and a sense of humor
• Familiarity or engagement with the local art community
• An understanding of Hyperallergic's mission and values

Salary range: $52,000–$65,000/year (Based on experience)
