We are searching for a Staff Quality Engineer on the Quality team who is a technical leader and go-to expert for our Quality Management System (QMS). You will leverage deep expertise to lead the implementation and continuous improvement of our quality processes, ensuring compliance with ASPICE and other industry standards.

Your insights will drive our process adherence, deficiency management, and quality reporting, forming the backbone of our quality assurance program. The role requires a strong background in software quality, process auditing, and root cause analysis. You will collaborate with diverse stakeholders across Safety, Engineering, Operations, and Product to ensure the Aurora Driver is developed and deployed with the highest level of quality.

In this role, you will

  • Own the development, documentation, and refinement of QMS processes, ensuring they are aligned with ASPICE, ISO 9001, and ISO 26262 requirements.
  • Drive the execution and continuous improvement of the Quality Deficiency Management process, ensuring all non-conformances are systematically tracked and resolved.
  • Lead and facilitate rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis for critical quality issues and test escapes, evaluating corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage and execute the internal audit program, conducting audits for requirements, architecture, test processes, and ASPICE compliance .
  • Track and report on audit findings, working with teams to ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
  • Develop, automate, and maintain reports for our Quality Performance Metrics.
  • Lead the design and implementation of the central Quality Dashboard to provide real-time, transparent data to all stakeholders.
  • Author and present technical quality analyses, audit reports, and process improvements to internal engineering teams and leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent applicable technical experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in software quality assurance, quality engineering, or QMS process management.
  • Demonstrated experience in a safety-critical domain (e.g., automotive, aerospace, robotics, medical devices).
  • Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems and deep command of a process model, specifically ASPICE.
  • Proven, hands-on experience in conducting process audits and leading structured root cause analysis.
  • Adept at querying, analyzing, and visualizing data to track and report on quality metrics.
  • Expert in tools such as Jira and Confluence for deficiency management and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to various audiences.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to provide guidance and mentorship.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a cross-functional team, or as a project lead.

Desirable Qualifications 

  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262, ISO 9001, and ISO 21434.
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., Jama).
  • Skilled in building and deploying using Amazon Web Services (AWS) tools.
  • Experience in developing process and training materials.
  • Familiarity with rapidly scaling operational environments.

The base salary range for this position is $163K-$236K per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
