Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a Staff Product Designer to join Aurora’s Operations Experience Product Design Team. This role reports directly to the Design Lead for Aurora Operations Experience. We are hiring for this position to lead the design of the Command Center team lead experience, focusing specifically on the high-stakes tools and workflows required to monitor and manage autonomous truck activity on the road.

As we scale our fleet of self-driving trucks and expand our network, this role offers a rare opportunity to establish the interaction patterns that will set industry standards for how autonomous systems surface information to oversight teams in complex, real-world environments.

In this role, you will

  • Own the end-to-end design for the Command Center team lead experience, ensuring supervisors have the clarity and tools needed to monitor real-time truck activity safely and efficiently.
  • Identify and solve the highest priority pain points for operations leads, uncovering strategic gaps in their monitoring and intervention workflows that others may not see.
  • Create high-fidelity prototypes in Figma to model and evaluate how the Aurora Driver communicates its status and intentions to the Command Center across digital touchpoints.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional partners in engineering and product to define, explore, and ship solutions that support the safe operation of our fleet.
  • Influence strategic direction by presenting design rationale to leadership and contributing new processes back to the broader design studio culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 8+ years of professional experience in product design, with a track record of leading complex, multi-workstream projects.
  • Operational Tooling: Proven experience designing internal or external operational tools, dashboards, or workflow management systems.
  • Systemic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to translate complex, evolving information architectures into intuitive and functional user experiences.
  • Design Fundamentals: Strong proficiency in interaction design and a high bar for visual design; you have a deep understanding of what good looks like and can execute to that standard.
  • Strategic Scope: Ability to manage multiple workstreams and drive.

Desirable Qualifications

  • High-Stakes Domain Expertise: Experience designing for high-complexity, high-stakes environments (e.g., autonomous vehicles, aviation, logistics, or medical systems) where safety is paramount.
  • Advanced Prototyping: Experience with advanced prototyping techniques, including the use of generative AI tools or coded prototypes (similar to a Design Engineer) to test complex system behaviors.
  • Visual Craft: A portfolio that showcases beautiful visual design work and a mastery of aesthetic execution.
  • Research Mastery: Proficiency in leading research initiatives in technical environments and translating findings into interaction models, service blueprints, and user interfaces.

The base salary range for this position is $139-$201K per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
