Staff FinOps (DevOps) Engineer

We are looking for a skilled FinOps (DevOps) Engineer to drive cost optimization and operational excellence in our cloud and AI infrastructure. We are seeking someone with technical expertise, experience in cloud cost management, infrastructure optimization, and a deep understanding of financial accountability within engineering teams. This role focuses on enabling cost-efficient scaling of our systems and fostering a culture of financial responsibility.

This is a role for a strategic thinker who can drive initiatives to completion, resolve complex problems, and champion financial optimization initiatives. You will work closely with SRE, DevOps, finance teams, and product engineers to establish best practices across our Systems Engineering group and the organization as a whole.

Key Responsibilities:

• Quickly learn and take ownership of cloud cost management and FinOps processes.
• Analyze cloud spending, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to optimize infrastructure utilization.
• Manage costs across multiple cloud and AI platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) as well as on-premise infrastructure, ensuring efficient resource usage.
• Develop and maintain dashboards to provide visibility into cloud and AI costs and utilization across teams.
• Develop and implement resource-tagging strategies, collaborating with product and DevOps teams, to enable accurate and detailed cost allocation.
• Identify and evaluate alternative cloud and AI service offerings to exploit pricing and performance advantages.
• Automate manual cost-tracking tasks, creating runbooks and streamlining workflows.
• Implement strategies to leverage pricing arbitrage, ensuring the selection of cost-efficient decisions to switch between providers as needed.
• Lead efforts to integrate FinOps principles into DevOps workflows and decision-making processes.
• Mentor engineers on FinOps principles, enabling teams to make cost-conscious design choices.
• Provide architectural guidance to ensure scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency in large projects.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Extensive experience with cloud and AI providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their cost optimization tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, GCP Billing).
• 7+ years of experience in Systems Engineering/DevOps/SRE, with at least 3 years focusing on cloud cost management or FinOps.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes, serverless computing, and containerized environments.
• Solid grasp of monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, and similar platforms) for cost tracking and resource utilization.
• Deep familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation in cloud environments.
• Exceptional communication skills to convey technical and financial concepts to engineering and leadership teams.
