AI overview

Lead the design and development of high-reliability mixed-signal electronics for satellites, shaping ICEYE's long-term hardware strategy and influencing engineering best practices.

Who We Are

ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE’s world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy – day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.

As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE’s near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.

ICEYE operates internationally with offices in Finland, Poland, Spain, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the US. The company has more than 900 employees, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.

Why this role?

ICEYE designs, builds and operates the world’s largest commercial SAR constellation — and our electronics are the heartbeat of every satellite we launch. As a Staff Electronics Engineer, you’ll not only design and deliver the mixed-signal electronics that power our missions, but also set the technical agenda for how ICEYE engineers spacecraft hardware.

You’ll own critical systems end-to-end, shape our long-term hardware strategy, and drive adoption of best practices across teams. Your influence will extend beyond individual boards or subsystems — helping architect solutions that meet today’s demands and smartly scale for the future.

If you’re ready to push technical boundaries, guide the company’s thinking, and make ICEYE a place that cultivates world-class engineering talent, this role is for you.

To support the company's growth, we continue to scale our Avionics Team and are looking for a Staff  Electronics Engineer to join our global Spacecraft Engineering Department.

About the role?

As a Staff Electronics Engineer (Avionics) you will:

  • Lead the design, development,  validation testing and qualification of high-reliability mixed-signal electronics for our satellites.
  • Own technical systems with end-to-end accountability, ensuring they meet mission and scalability needs.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary development projects
  • Drive engineering discipline and best practices across teams, influencing how ICEYE builds spacecraft hardware.
  • Anticipate future needs, architecting systems and developing  processes that keep ICEYE at the forefront of satellite electronics.
  • Use data, feedback and industry trends  to implement new ideas that advance our electronics platform.
  • Mentor and multiply the capabilities of the wider engineering organization.

High quality electronics are an extremely important part of our satellites. The key element of your work is to verify that all the decisions are supporting that goal, all the way from component selections to system design and  the qualification of the whole unit.

You will be responsible for the design of our products, testing,  documenting,  and solving the possible issues happening during the development process, manufacturing, or later at the orbit.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in electronics engineering within fast-paced development environments, preferably in embedded, aerospace, or mission-critical systems.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional projects, with impact beyond a single team or product.
  • Ability to use data strategically to guide design trade-offs, influence technical direction, and support decision-making at the architectural level.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in board-level hardware design, owning work end-to-end from schematics and PCB layout through simulation, bring-up, and validation.
  • Proven ability to push technical boundaries, applying advanced design techniques and measurements to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Strong expertise in laboratory and system-level measurements, including confident use of standard and advanced test equipment.
  • Excellent at root-cause analysis of board- and system-level failures, driving issues to resolution with data-backed conclusions.
  • Strong business awareness, designing solutions that balance technical excellence, reliability, cost, schedule, and manufacturability.
  • Clear and effective communicator in English (written and spoken), trusted to represent ICEYE’s technology both internally and externally.
  • Comfortable working independently, while also being a collaborative team player and technical mentor.
  • Thrives in a multicultural, international work environment.

In addition to the role specific requirements, we appreciate

  • BSc/MSc/PhD degree in electrical engineering or similar
  • Comfortable with Python and scripting under Linux OS
  • Aerospace industry experience
  • Understanding of on orbit design challenges, like  radiation, thermal behavior and continuous operation.

Benefits

  • A job that matters in a dynamic Defence Technology and Earth Observation environment with a scale-up approach
  • An independent role with a supportive and diverse work environment
  • Occupational healthcare, occupational, and accident insurance
  • A yearly benefit budget to spend as you wish (i.e. on sport, transport, bike benefit, wellness, lunch, etc.)
  • Phone subscription with iPhone of choice
  • Relocation support (i.e. flight tickets, accommodation, relocation agency support)
  • Time for self-development, research, training, conferences, or certification schemes
  • Inspiring and collaborating offices and silent workspaces enable you to focus

ICEYE is building and operating its own commercial constellation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites with SAR data already available to customers. These satellites can take images of Earth at any time – even when it’s cloudy or dark. Information derived from these images will help our customers understand the world better and help them make more intelligent decisions. We launched the world’s first SAR microsatellite in January 2018 and have raised $152M in financing to date.We are a Finnish based international New Space company with employees from roughly 30 countries and subsidiaries in the US, UK and Poland. Our team is a tight-knit group of experts from a range of areas including engineering, software development, and radar technology. We’re innovative, driven, and strive for excellence in everything we do. We don’t listen to people who say it can’t be done: we go and do it!
